This invention relates to fountain ,pens
and in particular to One adapted for 'writing in different colors.
lA particular object of. my invention is to provide a penfhaving a double point, the points to be used singly in the posting of gures or other work requiring contrasting color of writing fluid'. My pen is particularly adapted for bookkeepingin that one lo of the pens may be used for 'posting some of the figures in red and the other pentmay be used for posting'some ofthe figures in yblue or black ink, the change from one to the other of the pens being vreadilyY made and at the same time, the shape and size of sta-ntl ard types of pens being preserved.
A further object of my invention is to provide a simplified constructiionfiwhich reduces the cost of manufacture and at the same time to provide `a sturdy and leakproof construction which may made upat lowcost.
' A still further object ofi-ny invention is to provide a multi-color fountain' pen which is self-filling and one in which the parts are $5 so arranged that mixing .of theldiferent colored inks'is prevented and positive ow of each of the colors of infk is produ-ced.
Changes and variations may be made in the construction shown anddescribed without departing from the principles of the invention or sacrificing its chief advantages; hence such invention is not tobe confined to the structures shown vthe accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is .a vview Vin section-al elevation of a fountain pen constructed in with my invention. v
Figure -2 is a side view ofthe pen holdin-g member .of the foi-intain pen'Y construction,`
.this holder also 'serving as :a valve member lin bringing Aeach of .the pens `successive'ly into use to write a different color.

Figure 6 is a viewfin sectional elevation of the cap employed to complete the fountain penconstruction. n
-Referring tothe drawing in detail, j5 indicates a body member provided with a cen- (a `tra-l Opening 6 inthe'opposite Walls of the Opening of which are provided, the circularseat 7. A screw bore 8 extends transversely through the body 5 conc-entrically of said seat 7 and is arranged to hold in close con- 50 tact with said seat 7, the projecting portion 9 formed on a pen holder or rotor 10 that is 'snapped into position between the extended portions 11 of "said bodyv 5k. The'body 5 is provided with the longitudinal bore 12 con 16u stituting ink passages or flues which Open into the seat 7 and which at said point are lar-ranged to coincide With openings 13 'and 14 provided in` the extended portions 9 of the holder 10. This holder 'is shaped at its ends if. Aas at 16 -to conform to the xshaped end 17 lof the body 5 and when either of the pens 18 or 19 are projecting Ybeyond t'he vbody 5 and in position for use, theholder 14 completes at the opposite sides of the body 5 the shaped .end 17 of said body. 7 The holder 14 is provided with the oppositely disposed bores 20 and `21 for the reception of the pens 18 and 19 respectively together vwith their feeders 22, this portion eo of the pen construction being Well known 'in the art 'and the feedersfbeing usually forced into a pen .end Opening to be held in place and permit proper feed ofthe ink to the pen itself.v o i The bores 21 and 20 connect with the openings 13 and 14 through the medium of the passages 23 and 24 respectively so that-ink coming down through either of the passages 12 of the body ,5 will pass into either of the iin passages 23 .or 24 depending upon which pen point 18 or 19 is in the outward position ,and ready for use. In Figure 1, pen 18 is outermost and in position for use With the result that the passage 12 aligns with the opening lus 14 and the ink Hows through the passage 24 tothe pen 18. Atv the opposite side of the holder, however, the passage or opening 13 is closed by `reasonwof the fact that it Vdoes noti-register with the end of the opening 12 and I0@ hence, pen 19 is not being supplied With ink and being positioned Within the space 6 of the body, is not in use and is protected from damage by reason of its position Within the body 5. Y v
In order that the passages 12 of the body may be supplied yWith ink of different colors, I have provided a sack holder 26, the ends of which are of circular formation as at 27 and are provided with the outwardly extending bosses 28 over Whichr snap the re stricted ends 29 of the sack 30iand l31. The holder 26 is provided with av longitudinal bore 32 constituting an ink passageterminating at one end at one side ofthe sack holder as at 33 and at the opposite end in theboss 28, positioned at the outer end of said sack holder 26. The holder is also providedwith an ink bore 34 extendingthroughY the innermost boss 28 and opening at the opposite side of the .holder fromthe passage 32'. These passages 32 and 34 coincide with the ink passages 12 When the end of the holder 26 is seated in the recess 35 provided in the body 5 for that purpose. Thesack holder is preferably held in connection With the body bv a force it which renders the same leakproor and if necessary other means may be employed to secure the ltwo parts together although they can be taken apart for cleaning.
The sacks 30 and 31are made of rubber and constitute reservoirs for dierent colored inks, the sack 30 for instance beingarranged to hold blue ink While ther sack 31 could .be used to hold red ink and they are encased in the barrel 3G which has threaded connection as at 37 to the upper end of the body 5, the barrel 36 being also threaded at its open end Where itengages the body 5 for the purpose of receivingthethreadcd end 39 of a cap 40. This cap 40, as is usual in fountain pens Vbears the clip 41 and its internal bore is reduced as at 42 to provide a receptacle for the pen when the cap is placed over the body 5.
An important feature of my inventionv is the use of the bolt 13 Whose end is threaded as at 44 into a suitable ferrule l5 Which is countersunk in the body' and is flush with the surface of said body. .This bolt is adjustable to draw together the opposite Vsides or extensions 11 of the body 5 and to securely hold in position the holder to prevent leakage of ink and at the same time permit rotation of the holder 10 to place either pen 18 or 19 in position for use and at the same time to align either'theopening'lll or the opening 13 With either of the channels 12 so that the proper ink may be fed from either the sack or sack 31 to the pen to be used. f
In filling the pen, it is vsimply necessary to remove the barrel v36 byu'nthreading the same from the body 5 and dipping each of thepens 18 and 19 into proper colored ink, thefsacks 30V and 31 can be' manipulated successivelyto lill themselves by suction through the proper pen 18 or 19 in the usual manner.
All of the parts of my pen construction may be made of hard rubber or composition With the exception of the pens and the bolt and ferrule, the sacks 30 and 31 being of the usual pliable rubber of the compressible type employed as reservoirs in fountain pens.
It is evident, therefore, that I have provided a double duty fountain pen which may 'beemployed--to lWrite in contrasting colors -of-delay and trouble and have lprovided a construction which lends itself readily tothe easy cleaning of the pen and quick separa-tion. of all of the parts for a thorough cleansing.
. My invention is not to be restricted to the precise details of construction shown since `various changesA and 'modiiications may be made therein Without departing from the e scope offthe invent-ion or sacrificing the advantages derived from' its use.-
, 1. In a Writing-implement, a body member having-a plurality of ink channels, a holder mounted in said lbody member and having passages therein, aspen' in eachV passage, a multi-color Vink supplyv for the said body channels and means for revolvably mounting the holder in the body whereby one of the passages and one of the channels coincide.
2. A pen of the character described comprising a body having passages and an opening therein, a. holder revolvably positioned in said opening, pens in said holder and said holder having a channel leading froml each pen to the side of the holder, and arranged to coincide 'with one of the lbody passages when the holder is in a predetermined position, and means for supplying ink to said pastion, and means for s upplying ink to said pasi sages comprising a sack holder secured to said body, a plurality of sacks on the holder, and said sack holder having a passage fromeach sack connecting with each' passage of said body.- l l f Y n les 4. In a pen of the character described, a
body having passages therein, a rotor in the body having a pen at opposite ends thereof, said rotor having channels therein opening at the sides thereof, means for supplying an ink of different Color to each of said passages, and each of said rotor channels being arranged to coincide with its respective body passage When the rotor is revolved to position the pen for use.
5. In a pen of the character described, a body having passages andan opening therein, a holder revolvably positioned in said opening and having channels therein, pens in said holder, the said channels leading from each pen to the sides of the holder and arranged to Coincide with the body passages When the holder is in a predetermined position, means for supplying ink to said passages comprising a sack holder arranged to be secured to said body, a plurality of sacks on the holder, said sack holder having a passage leading from each sack, and connecting With each passage of said body, and a barrel constituting a housing for the sack holder.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature. ALFRED S. BEARDSLEY. [1.. s]
