Application filed September as, 1925.
The invention relates to fountain paint brushes, and has for its object to provide a device'of this character comprising an elongated handle member, preferably cylindrically shaped, and provided with a longitudinally disposed partition thereby forming paint receptacles within the handle in which different colored paint may be placed.
A further object is to provide a sleeve threaded on one end of the handle member and having a painting element, for instance a sponge 1n one end thereof and a rotatable disc within the sleeve in engagement with the end of the handle, and with an annular flange within the sleeve and an aperture in said disc adapted to register with either chamber in the handle member for supply ing either colored paint to the sponge. The device is particularly adapted for use in lettering and sign painting, however applicable to general use.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing.:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fountain paint brush.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the paint brush.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinalsectional view through the paintbrush taken at a right angle to Figure 2.
Figure 4c is a horizontal sectional view taken on line lt of Figure 2, i
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an elongated cylindrical handle member which is preferably tapered and 2 a longitudinally disposed partition within the handle member and extending the full length thereof, and which partition divides the handle member into independent compartments 3. Threaded on one end of the handle members is a cap 4, which when removed allows different colored paints to be placed in the compartments 3, and when in position as shown in Figure 2, engages the end of the partition 2 at 5 thereby prevent ing the paint in one compartment to mix with the other during the manipulation of the device. Threaded on the other end of Serial No. 58,787.
the handle member at 6 is a sleeve 7, which sleeve is provided with an annular flange 8 therein, intermediate its ends, and interposed between the flange 8, the adjacent end of the handle member 1, and the adjacent end of the partition 2 is a rotatable disc 9. disc 9 is provided with an aperture 10, which is adapted to register with either of the compartments 3 according to the color of the paint desired for use. It will be noted that the disc 9, after being properly adjusted may be held in tight binding engagement with the end of the partition 2 and the handle 2, so that it will not easily move,
The I ing of color of paint supplied to the sponge 11 during a painting operation. Extending outwardly from the disc 9 through a slot 12 in the sleeve 7 is a lug 13, adapted to be grasped by the operator for rotating the disc 9 to a position where its aperture 10 will register with either of the compart- 'ments 3, when it is desired to change the color of the paint. By providing a sponge 11, it is obvious the sponge may be easily and quickly changed when changing the color of paint.
From the above it will be seen that a fountain paint brush is provided which is simple in construction, provided with means whereby a plurality of different colors of paint may be used when desired, and one which is particularly adapted for sign painting art, and applicable for general use. It will also be seen the parts are reduced to a minimum and by tightening the sleeve 7, the disc 9 will be securely held against displacement and said disc 9 and cap a prevent paint from one of the compartments 3 from mixing with paint in one of the other compartments 3.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A fountain paint brush comprisingan elongated handle member, a partition extending longitudinally through the casing thereby forming independent compartments for'the receptionof different colored paint, a cap threaded on one end of the casing and engaging the end of the partition thereby forming a olosurefor the ends of the compartments,- a sleeve threaded on the other end of the casing, an annular flange within the sleeve spaced from its ends, an apertured disc interposed. betweenthe end of the easing and the annular the end of the casing and the end of the artition a lu carried b said disc and eX Within the sleeve and held in engagement With the end ofthe handle member by the sleeve and adapted to have its aperture placed in registration With either of the compartments of the handle member and a cap threaded on the other end of the handle member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
