NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER Filed July so. 1931 gva/vento@ Patented ug. 3), 1932 i urs' STATES PATENT orties THOMAS AQ HANSEN, vOF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR F ONE-FOURTH TO JAN P. CLARY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER Application led July 30, 1931.
rThis invention relates to nursing bottle holders, and the invention comprises a supporting member adapted to be placed between the bed springs and mattress of a bed- LQ stead or upon the bed covers and the supported member is provided with a pivoted vertical upright to which is slidably connected telescopic arms also pivoted relative to the vertical upright on the outer ends of which is secured a nursing bottle holder adjustable relative to the telescopic arms.
rThe invention further comprises an indicator adapted to be secured to the nursing bottle holder so that the exact hour an infant is fed may be determined in order to determine the time of the next feeding.V The indicator may be of any desired form but the invention is illustrated in the form of a disk wheel type.
novel bottle clamping member associated with the bottle holder constitutes a part of the invention as does also the structural details and arrangements of the parts. Heretofore, it has been customary for nurses and attendants in maternity hospitals to keep a. chart or record of the exact hours the infants are fed in order to ascertain the next hour or time of feeding. I The above practice has numerous disadvantages and 0bjections5 due to the fact that the sheets are cumbersome and the records employed consume sufficient time to distract nurses and attendants from other duty.
Y The above objections and disadvantages are overcome by providing a nursing bottle having` the before mentioned characteristics including an indicator permanently secured to the nursing bottle holder.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description, forming a part of this specification and in which.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention partly in section illustrating the manner '45' in which theseveral parts are connected and adjust-ably secured together;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view enlarged and partly in section of the bottle holder showing the indicato-r and clamping member more clearly and in detail;
Serial No. 554,133.
Figure 3 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 2, illustratving theconstruction and arrangement of the indicator and clamping device;
Figure 4 is a horizontal cross-sectional view of the device illustrating the configuration of the supporting base member. Y
In thedrawing, wherein for the purpose Aof` illustrating the invention and wherein vlike Areference characters will be employed to designate like parts throughout the same, the reference character 5 will generally be employed to designate a base member formed of a piece of heavy wire bent upon itself as at 6 to form opposite parallel legs 7. The 05 free ends of the opposite parallel legs 7 are bent inwardly as at 8 and terminate in parallel portions 9.
Between the parallel portions 9 of the base member 5 is pivotally secured a vertical 70 lstandard 10 by means of a suitable pivot pin as at 11. The upper end of the standard 10 may be provided with a stop member 12, theypurposeof which will be described in the following paragraph.
^ Sli dably mounted upon the vertical standard 10 isa-collar 13 having a thumb screw 14 threaded therein so that the Vcollar 18 may be held in any desired position relative to thestandard 10 and the knob or ball 12 to prevent lthe collar 13 from passing beyond the limit of the vertical standard 10.
Pivotally secured to the collar 13 as at 15 is a. universal swivel ioint 16 to which is pivoted one end'of a telescopic bar or rod 17 as at 18. The free end of the telescopic rod 17Y is slotted on opposite sides as at 19 to vprivide a spring socket for the associated telrod 17 on each side of the slot 19 will be contracted to grip firmly the rod 20.
The free end of the Vrod 20 enters the telescopic rod and the opposite end is secured in a pivotal Jfashion to a cylindrical nursing bottle holdler 23 as at 24 so that the nursing bottle 25 may be moved in a vertical direction.
It is to be noted that the nursing Abottle holder 23 is cup-shaped and has one endV open while the opposite end is closed as at 25 and is provided with a boss 26 having a bearing 27 through which the bearing pin 24 passes.
It is to be noted that the nursing bottle vholder 23 is formed on the peripheral ends with annular depressions 27 to produce a.
'struck up rib 28 having a central slot 29 and struck fup ears 30 in order that aV clamping lever 31 may be pivoted thereto as at 32 to allow a slight projection thereon as at 33 to engage a metallic clamping bar 34. An interior lining of rubber or other flexible and compressible material 35 is provided within 'the nursing bottle holder 23 for engaging tions 37 connecting to the nursing bottlel `holder 23. Rotatably mounted between the bearing supports 36 isa plurality ofl disks 39 having suitable markings or numerals on the periphery thereof, each of which is adapted to be turned by a knurled thumb piece 40. It is to be understood that there is provided a knurled thumb piece 40 for each ofthe indicating disks 39. l Connecting the bearing support '36 is a tubular member having a longitudinal slot 42 and transverse slots for the passage of the knurled thumb Y pieces 40 so that the same will project for the purpose' of being operated. It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred embodiment'of the lsame and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is f An adjustable nursing bottle holder of the character described, comprising a base, a vertical standard rising therefrom, a rod adjustable on the'standard, a cylindrical nurs-
