Description

Aug. 23 1932. J. w. ANSTQNE ADJUSTABLE LOCK KEEPER Original Filed March 11, 1951 Patented Aug. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES JAMES WILLIAM AN S'I'INE, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA ADJUSTABLE LocK KEEPER Application filed March 11, 1931, Serial No. 521,826. Renewed June 20, 1932.
This invention relates to an adjustable tion and arrangement of the several parts, to a be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing part of a door and a part of a frame with the improved keeper member on the frame for engaging the bolt of the latch on the door.
Fig. 2 is an edge view looking toward the keeper member.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 44: of Fig. 1.
In these views, the letter A indicates a door or other barrier and the letter B a part of the frame thereof, the door carrying a lock C, the bolt of which is adapted to engage a keeper member 1 on the frame, in the usual manner. An angle plate 2 is fastened to an edge of the frame B by the screws 3 and covers a groove or recess 4 in said frame. The plate is formed with a longitudinalslot 5. A second angle plate 6 is supported for vertical movement on the plate 2 through means of the screw 7 carried by the plate 6, passing through the slot 5 in the plate 2 and passing into threaded holes in a plate 8 located in the recess 4 and engaging the inner side of the limb of the plate 2.
Thus by loosening the'screws 7 the plate 6 can be adjusted vertically on the plate 2 and thereby tightening the screws 7, the plate 6 will be held in ad usted position on the plate 2. i
This plate 6 is formed with a horizontal rib 9 on its outer face which'is of dove-tail shape and the inner face of the member 1 is formed with a dove-tail groove 10 for re ceiving said rib, so that said keeper member 1 is supported for horizontal sliding movement on the plate 6.
A horizontal slot 11 is formed on each end of the keeper member 1 and a screw 12 passes through each slot and is threaded into the plate 6, so that by loosening the screws 12, the keeper member 1 can be adjusted horizontally toward and away from the lock C and then by tightening the screws 12, the
keeper member is fastened in adjusted posi- I tion onthe plate 6.
Thus I have provided simple means for ad justing the keeper both vertically and horizontally so as to insure the boltof the lock properly engaging the keeper recess 13 in the Having thus described my inventiomwhat Q I claim as new 1s:-
In combination with a keeper member for a lock or latch bolt and a frame member having an elongated recess in one face thereof, an
angle-shaped plate recessed in the frame member and having one part covering the recess and its other part engaging an edge of the frame member, said plate having a slot in communication with the recess, a second angle-shaped plate resting on the first plate, screws passing through the second plate and through the slot in the first plate, a bar located in the recess and contacting with the slotted part of the first plate and receiving the ends of the screws, said second plate having a horizontal rib on its outer face of dovetailed shape, and said keeper member having a horizontal groove of dove-tail shape for receiving the rib, flanges on the ends of the w keeper member and horizontal slots therein and screws passing through the slots into the .7 second r plateh v 7 Y In testimony whereof I aflikimy signatlre.
