strike the only manner of correcting such misplacement, except that of filing away a part of the strike when the bolts will not latch, is to remove the strike and re-mortise the door which almost invariably leaves an 1 unsightly appearance and, because of the holes made by the screws, renders the strike liable to be knocked off in shutting the door.
One important object of the present invention is to provide an improved lock strike 0 which can be adjusted from the facing side of the door while the door is shut and the bolts shot so that the bolts will always properly engage in the strike while at the same time rattling of the door is prevented.
t will be observed that the accomplishment of this object enables one to discard the old strike, solves the rattling of the door, makes unnecessary removing and changing the strikes, provides for adjustment to meet all settling of buildings and expansion and contraction, provides for adjustment by any person capable of using a screw driver in a few instants and makes a clean cut for thecarpenter.
. Another important object of the invention is to provide an improved lock strike of this character which can be taken apart from the facing side of the door so that if the key breaks or sticks the door may be opened from 0 the inside without injuring the lock or woodwork of the door casing.
It will also be observed that the improved strike does'away with the ugly projection now common on door strikes, that the finish or facing plate fits either right or left hand and that the adjustable blocks, being separate, permit arrangement for either right or left hand doors.

consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a section through the free edge of a door and door casing and showing the improved strike in position.
Figure 2 is a view of the jamb side of the door casing showing the lock strike in position therein.
Figure 3 is a view of the facing side of the 1 door casing with the improved strike in position.
Figure 4 is a section on the line H of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 3 with the facing or finish plate removed.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the adjustable blocks or stop pieces with the screw in position.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the part shown in Figure 6 with the adjusting screw removed and looking from the opposite diagonal edge of the stop piece.

In the embodiment of the invention as herein disclosed there is provided a jamb piece or plate which actually takes the form of a casing closed as at 10 opposite the facing side and also closed as at 11 opposite the jamb side or side which faces the edge of'the door when the latter is closed. The j amb side 12 is open at the middle portion as can be seen in Figure 2 at 13, this opening being continuous and not interrupted by a cross bar as is common with the ordinary lock strike. It is in this opening 13 that the bolt B which latches the door ts as well as the ordinary locking bolt which is operated by turning the key. The facing side of this casing is also open and the opening 13 extends to the front edge of the casing, this opening having its top and bottom edges beveled toward the front as at 14. Preferably the front or facing side of the casing is set below the surface of the door facing, this arrangement being made by proper mortising of the door casing. Against this front side is set the facing or finish plate, preferably termed the strike plate 15, which is secured to the upper and lower parts of the casing by screws 16. This strike plate has a small strike lip 17 thereon and is provided adjacent each end with access openings 18. Furthermore, opposite the lip 17 the strike plate has spaced flange portions 19 which have their upper and lower edges beveled as at 20 and these portions 19 are so positioned that a guide slot is formed between them and also guide slots are formed between the respective portions 19 and the beveled edges 14. Mounted within the casing is a pair of adjustable stop pieces each having a body 21 from the front side of which projects a pair of lugs 22 and 23, the lug 22 fitting in the guide groove between the respective flange portion 19 and the beveled edge 14 while the lug 23 fits against the opposite edge of the respective portion 19, the lugs of the two blocks 21 filling the space between said flange portions 19 and the two blocks 21 butting end to end. Furthermore, a third lug 24 is provided on the opposite side from the lugs 22 and 23 at the extreme end and this lug engages the bevel end of the casing side 11 as can be seen by reference to Figure 5. Through each of these stop pieces extends a screw 25 which is screwed into a threaded opening 26 in the casing side 10. This screw has a head 27 which is seated in a countersunk opening 28 formed in the front face of the stop piece and furthermore a nut 29 is secured behind this front face to form a collar so that by rotating the screw in one direction or the other the stop piece is moved toward or from the strike plate 15.
Now, with this arrangement it is to be observed that these stop pieces may be adjusted transversely of the door casing so that the lock bolts will properly engage in the strike casing behind these stop pieces, the stop pieces being adjusted close enough to the outer side of the door casing to prevent rattling of the door. 7
It will be observed that this adjustment can I take place entirely from the inner side of the door without removing any of the parts since the screw heads 27 register with the openings There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired .to include all such as properly some within the scopeclaimecl.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. A look strike including a jamb plate constituting a casing open on the j amb side and open on the facing side, a strike plate covering the opening on the facing side and having spaced fiange portions extending at least partially across the jamb side opening of the casing whereby to form guide slots, means for securing the strike plate detachably to the casing, said strike plate having screw access openings, stop pieces movable in said casing toward and from the strike plate and having guide lugs fitting in said guide slots, and adjusting screws extending through the stop pieces and screwed into the casing and having heads alined with said access openings.
2. A look strike including a jamb plate constituting a casing open on the jamb side and open on the facing side, a strike plate covering the opening on the facing side and having spaced flange portions extending at least partially across the jamb side opening of the casing whereby to form guide slots, means for securing the strike plate detachably to the casing, said strike plate having screw access openings, stop pieces movable in said casing toward and from the strike plate and having guide lugs fitting in said guide slots, said slots and guide lugs having their edges beveled to form dove-tail engagement between the slots and lugs, and adjusting screws extending through the stop pieces and screwed into the casing and having heads alined with said access openings, said heads being located in front of said stop pieces and the screws being provided with collars to the rear of said stop pieces.

A lock strike including a jamb plate constituting a casing open on the jamb side and open on the facing side, a strike plate covering the opening on the facing side and having spaced flange portions extending at least partially across the jamb side opening of the casing whereby to form guide slots, means for securing the strike plate detachably to the casing, said strike plate having screw access openings, stop pieces movable in said casing toward and from the strike plate and having guide lugs fitting in said guide slots, and adjusting screws extending through the stop pieces and screwed into the casing and having heads alined with said access openings, said heads being located in front of said stop pieces and the screws being provided with collars to the rear of said stop pieces, each of said screws controlling the adjustment of a respective stop piece whereby said stop pieces are independently adjustable.
