Description
]J. F. HENN'ESSY.
, CHURN'S. No. 186,837. Patq'nted Jan.30,187 7.
NPETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D C.
" i ATENT OFFIC.
JOHN F. HENNESSY, OF JUNEAU, WISCONSIN.
' IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS'.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,837, dated January 30, 1877; application filed October 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J. F. HENNESSY, of Juneau, in the county of Dodge and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chorus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled. in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my improved churn. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through churn-box. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
This invention has relation to oscillating churns and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
'A designates the base of the churn-frame,
supported upon legs a a. B B are standards on either side'of side base, having recesses I) cut in their upper ends to receive the trunnions b, projecting from the sides of the churnbody. 0 is the oscillating churn, consisting of an oblong rectangular vessel or box, provided with a suitable lid, D, which is held closed by buttons d, and containing within it two swinging beater-frames, E E, which vibrate as the churn is rocked, and thoroughly beat the cream. These heaters are removable. Projecting from one side of the vessel 0 are two obliquely-arranged mortised blocks, F F. The standard B is provided with two oblique arms, F F, which receive said blocks as the churn oscillates. Upon these arms are spiral springs G, to break the motion of the churn, impart to it a series of shocks, and cause it to recoil, thereby rendering its movement easy and elfective. h h are stops to limit the movement of the heaters.
What I claim is-- 1. The combination of the oscillating churn 0, having the blocks F projecting from one side, with the supporting-standards B B, arms F F, and spiral springs G, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the oscillating churn 0, blocks F F on the side thereof, and springs Gr, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of September, 1876.
JOHN F. HENNESSY. Witnesses:
W. E. HALLOOK, CHAS. END.
