This invention relates to autographic registers, and has for its object to provide a register of the pull type, in which the sheets of paper are grasped by the fingers of the operator and pulled out.
It is particularly the object of this invention to provide a writing table having a slot therein, throu h which the sheets of paper pass, and on t e table adjacent the slot is a frame adapted in one position to hold the sheets of paper against the under side of the table, and in another position to move the sheets of paper so that they are substantially in alignment with the slot for being pulled through the slot.'
It 1s also an object of vthis invention to provide means for operating the frame, either at the front or rear.
It is also an object of this invention to :0l provide, in connection with the cover extending over the writing table, a hinged cutter plate,.and means for elevating the cutter plate and for operating the frame when it is l desired to remove the sheets of paper or withdraw them from the register.

In this register there is shown the usual casing having sldes 1, afront end 2 and a rear end 3.l buitably attached to the sides of the casin adjacent the front end, is a table 4, to the ront end of which are attached ears 5 for pivotally supporting the table on a rod 5 which extends through the casing from one side to the other.
When the table is in closed position the rear end rests upon studs 7, two of which are on each side of the casing. However, any number of these studs may be provided. 10

delivery of sheets of paper through theslot" 11 a frame is provided, which has a trans` versely extending bar 12, at each end of which is a right-angular wing 13, which terminates in a, trunnion 14 in a line arallel with the bar 12. There are two o these trunnions sup orted underneath the table by clips 15 so t at the frame may easily rock therein. Attached to the wings 13 in some suitable manner and slightly removed from the guide bar 12, is a guide bar 12a. The guide bar 12 holds the paper up near the under surfaceV of the writing table during the writing period. When the frame is shifted the bar 12a brings the sheets of paper so that they may without t be removed through the slot 11.
Extending from one of the trunnions isl an arm 16, substantially in the plane of the wings 13. Att-ached to the other trunnions is an arm 17, the purpose of which will be later described. Attached to the free end of the arm 16 is one end of a spring 18, which has its other end attached by some suitable means to the under side of the writing table.
When the table is closed and rest-s upon the Studs 7 the frame is within the casing, with the spring 18 tending to hold the frame in its most rearward position. For the purpose of shiftin the frame there is located on one side of t e casing and within the casing a slide bar 19, which has a slit 20 therein through which a screw 21, or some other guidn means, passes and is supported by the Wal of the casing. On the end of this slide bar is an abutment 22 adapted to engage the arm 17 of the frame for moving the arm toward the front of the casin when it is desired to remove the sheets o paper from the casing.
Attached near the rear end of the casing has ashaft 24 attached at one end to one end of the arm and extending through one side of the casing. To the other end of the frame the slide bar 19 is pivotally attached, as indicated bi the' numeral 25. On the shaft 24 e casing is an operating lever 26. In this cover is the usual writing opening 31. The rear end of the writing table has a rectangular recess 32, which is substantially over the cut-out part 10 in the writing table so that the sheets of paperV to be removed from the register may be easily gripped by the fingers of the operator. During the time the sheets of paper are not( being removed the recess 32 is closed by eans of a cutting blade 33, which is sharp on its rear edge for easily severing the sheets of paper. This cutting blade is attached to the cover by means of hinges 34, composed of two straps connected in the usual manner by a spindle or shaft 35. Between the two hinges is a spring 36, which tends to hold the cutting blade in the recess 32 so that it is in a position normally for severing the sheets of paper.
The spindle 35 is suitably attached in a permanent manner to the parts of the hinges attached to the cutting blade so that by rotating the spindle the blade may be elevated out of the recess 32. For the purpose of slide bar 19 with its other end attached to the side of the casing for the purpose of holding the bar so that it will not press against the arm 17 on the frame. By means of the springs 18, 38 and 36 the parts of the autographic register are held in the position shown in Figure 5.- When the parts are in this position the sheets of paper cannot be withdrawn from the register, and in order to shift the parts so that thesheets of paper may be withdrawn the lever 26 is operated, orcing'the frame toward the front of the casing, elevating the blade 33, after which the strips of paper may be withdrawn. After the paper has been withdrawn the desired ,l e rear edge of the 'sl't for controlling the feeding or de- ,rotating the spindle for elevating the blade length the handle is released, and all of the parts again assume the position shown in Figure 5'. Figure 3 showsthe parts in sheetfeeding position.
For the purpose of holdin the cover in a closed position there is provi ed'on each side of the casing a hook 39. The hinged cover substantially covers all of the casing shown in Figure 1 except a small part of the rear end, which is covered by a fixed cover member 40 forming an extension of the rear end of the casing. In this fixed cover member is a finger hole 41, through which the finger may be extended for gripping the advanced ends of the sheets of paper for removing them from the register. In Figures 6 to 1l, inclusive,4 a slightly modified form of casing is shown, and a modified means for operating the paper control frame. In these figures the arm 17 is extended into an arm 17 a. which extends through a slot in one side of the casing and has thereon a handle 42a. Thisvhandle extendsthrough the slot 43, which is arcuate, as shown in Figure 11. In the form shown in these two figures the handle 42a is pressed down, thereby removing the frame from adjacent the under side of the writing table to a substantially vertical position so that the sheets of paper may be removed.
In the front end of the casing there is provided a paper box 44, 'from which the sheets ot paper are' fed through the vslot ll. After the strips of paper have been withdrawn and severed, all or part of them may be inserted through a slot 46 into a compartment 47 where they are preserved. This compartment 47 extends rearwardly from the part of the casing described and shown in connection with Figure 1, and has a more extended ton cover 40a, which is held to the casing by means of a lock 45.
On one side of the casing is a carbon compartment 48 adapted to carry a plurality of sheets of carbon paper. In this compartment, for supporting the sheets of carbon paper, is a shaft 49. The sheets of carbon paper are indicated by the numeral 50. vIn order to hold the free ends of the sheets of carbon paper there is provided on the side of the casing opposite the carbon compart- 'of paper are folded along the creases to form a stac as shown in Figure 8, from which the strips of paper are fed through the frame between the bars 12 and 12a.
When the parts of the autographic register are in the position shown in Figure 5 the sheets of. paper are in a position to receive writing thereon through the writing opening. When the paper control frame is in the position shown in this figure the strips of paper cannot be withdrawn, because of the angular nature of the straps engaging the writing table at the rear of the slot 11. When it is desired to withdraw the strips of paper from the register the lever 26 is moved toward the front end of the register, thereby raising the cutting blade 33 and moving the paper control trame toward the front so that the strips of paper may be more easily withdrawn through the slot 11.
After the strips of paper have been withdrawn a sucient length the lever 26 is released. The various springs controlling the Operation of these parts bring them back to the position shown in Figure 5. Figure 3 shows the operating mechanism in position for withdrawing the sheets of paper from the register.
I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as may he embraced within my claims and the scope of my invention.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In an autograpnic register, a casing, a Writing table therefor having a slot therein for the withdrawal of a strip of paper from the casing, and means in the casing adapted in one position, in cooperation with the table, to fold the strip to prevent its Withdrawal and in another position to partially straight- ,l
l adapted to prevent withdrawal of thev strips and the other adapted to position the strips so they can be withdrawn.
3. In an autographic register,`a casing, a writin table adapted to support thereon a plurality of strips of paper being withdrawn from the casing, and adjustable means in the' casing adapted in one position to hold the strips of paper bent towards the table to prevent the withdrawal thereof, andl in another end of the table to bend and hold the strips against withdrawal, and a single means to release the strip-holding means and 'raise the cutter means olf the strips.
5. In an autographic register, a casing, a writing table on said casing adapted to support strips of paper being withdrawn from the casing, pivoted cutter means at one end of the table for severing the strips, pivoted means near the other end of the table to prevent the withdrawal of the strips, and common means for moving the cutting means from the strips andl operating the pivoted means for releasing the strips.
6. In an autographic register, a casing, a writing table on the casing adapted to support stripsof paper being withdrawn from the casing, a pivoted cutter means at one end of the table for severing the strips, a pivoted frame near the other end of the table engaging the stripsnormally holding the strips against withdrawal, and common means to raise the cutter means and rock the stripf'holding means to release the strips.
7. In an autographic register, a casing, a
writing table on the casing for supporting strips of paper'withdrawn from the casing, movable cutter means at one end ofthe table for severing the strips, movable strip-control means near the other end of the table, spring means to hold'the strip-control means against' strips whereby the strips are held adjacent the under side of the table, and a common means Jfor moving the cutter means from the strips and the strip-control means to move the strips away from the bottom of the table.

9. In an autographic register adaptedl to hold a strip of paper having creases therein at spaced intervals, a writing table having a slot therein for the withdrawal ofthe strip .from the casing, a rocking frame member on the table within the caslng engaging both sides of the strip for holding the strip against the under side of the table with the strip engaging the table in the slot along a crease to hold the stripl against the under side of the table, and for holding the strip away from the under side of the table, and means to rock the frame member.
10. In an autographic register, a casing having a compartment for strips of paper, a writing table pivoted to the casing, said table having a slot adjacent one end for the withdrawal of strips of paper, and a notch at the other end, removable cutter means over the notched end of the table, a frame member pivoted to the table adjacent the slot, said frame member engaging the strips of paper to hold the strips against the under s ide of the table and to move the strips away from `the under side of the table, and means to remove the cutter means and rock the frame.
11. In an autographic register, a casing having a compartment for strips of paper, a
writing table pivoted to the casing, said table move the cutter means and rock the frame,
said means comprising a lever adjacent the cutter means, and a link from the lever to the frame.
12. In an autographic register, a casing having a compartment for strips of paper, a writing table pivoted to the casing, said table having a slot adjacent one end for the withdrawal of strips of paper, and a notch at the other end, removable cutter means over the notched end of the table, a frame member' pivoted to the table adjacent the slot, said frame member engaging thestrips of paper to hold the strips against the under side of the table and to move the strips away from the under side of the table, and means to remove the cutter means and rock the frame, said means comprising a lever pivoted to the oasing adjacent the cutter means, and-,aJ link from the lever to theyframe.
13. In' an autographic register, a casing having a compartment for strips of paper, a writing table for said casing, said table having a slot for the strips of'paper adjacent one end and a notch at the other end, a cutter .having a slot adjacent one end for the withy adapted to overlie the notch, a strip-control the slot, means to hold the frame adjacent the under side of the table so the strips cannot be withdrawn from the compartment, and means to raise the cutter and rock the frame to release the strips so they can be withdrawn.
14. In an autographic register, a casing having a compartment for strips of paper, a writing table for said casing, said table having a slot for the strips of paper adjacent'one end and a notch at the other end` a cutter adapted to overlie the notch, a strip-control frame on the under side of the table adjacent the slot, means to hold the frame adjacent the under side of the table so the strips cannot be withdrawn from the compartment` and means to raise the cutter and rock the frame to release the strips so they can be withdrawn, said means comprising a lever-operating cutter and a link extending from the lever to o the frame.
15. In anfautographic register, a casing having a. compartment for strips of paper, a writing table vtor said casing, said table having a slot for the strips of paper adjacent one end anda notch at the other end. a cutter adapted to overlie the notch, a strip-control frame on the under side ofthe table adjacent the slot, means to hold the frame adjacent the under side of the table sothe strips cannot be withdrawn from the compartment, and means to raise the cutter and rock the frame to release the strips so they can be withdrawn, said means comprising a lever-operating cutter and a link extending Jrrom the lever to the frame and pivoted to the lever and slidably supported by the casing.
16. In an autographic register, awriting table therefor, a presser plate at one end of the table for guiding and holding strips of paper passing over the table, said table and plate having therein a finger notch for the withdrawal of the strips, and means located over the plate and the notch to sever the strips of paper.

In an autographic register, a writing table therefor, a presser plate at one end of the table for guiding and holding strips of paper on the table, saidplate and table hav'- ing therein a finger notch for the withdrawal of the strips, a cutter pivotally located over the plate and the notch to sever the strips of paper, and means on the table to raise the cutter away from the notch so the ends of the strips are exposed. j.
19. In an autographic register, a casing adapted to contain strips of paper having transverse creases therein, a writing tableY having a notch at one end and a slot adjacent the other end for the withdrawal of strips from the casing, and a pivoted frame member engaging said strips and adapted to hold the strips a jacent the under side of the plate with the creases against the edge of the table in the slot, whereby the strips may be aligned and adapted to move the strips so they can be fed over the edge of the table.
20. In an autographic register, a casing adapted to contain strips of paper having transverse creases therein, a writing table having a notch in one end and a slot adjacent the other end for the withdrawal of the strips from the casing, a frame pivoted to the table adjacent the slot and engaging the strips, spring means operating on the frame to hold the strips adjacent the under side of the table with the creases against the edge of the table in the slot, whereby pulling of the strips may align them, and means to rock the frame to move-the strips away from the under side of the table so they may be Withdrawn through the slot. i
21. In an autographic register, a casing having at one endl a compartment for folded strips of paper, a writing table over said compartment having a slot therein through which the strips are withdrawn, a pivoted frame on said table adjacent the slot engaging the strips, a spring tending to hold the frame in one position with the strips adjacent the under side of the table, whereby the strips are held with the folds against the table at one side of the slot, an arm on the frame, and means extending through one side of the cas ing for operating the arm to move the frame away from the under side of the table, whereby the strips may be withdrawn.
22. In an autographic register, a casing, a writing table for said casing having a slot therein for the withdrawal of strips of paper from the casing, a frame pivotally supported by the table in the casing, said frame having a pair of members between which the strips pass, means tending to hold the frame and the strips adjacent the underside of the table to one side of the slot, an arm on the frame,
and means on the arm extending through one side of the casing to move the frame from one side of the slot to a point beneath the slot.
23. In an autographic register, a casing` a writing table resting on the casing, a presser plate at one end of the table for guiding and directing strips of paper over the table. said table having a slot near one end for the strips and a notch at the other end in the table and' the plate, a frame through which the strips pass pivoted to the table near the slot, means tending to hold the frame and the strips adjacent the under side of the table` a cover for said casing over the table, said los cover'having a notch at one end extending substantially across the notched end of the table, a cutter pivoted to the cover in the notch therein for severing the strips of paper at the end of the writing table, and means for raising said cutter and swinging the frame to a position substantially beneath the slot. 24. In an autographic register, a casing, a writing table resting on the casing, a presser plate lat one end of the table for guiding and directing strips of paper `over the table, said table having av slot near one end for the strips and a notch at the other end in the table and the plate, a frame through which the strips vpass pivoted to the table near the slot, means tending to hold the frame and strips adjacent the under side of the table, a cover for said casing over the table, said cover having a notch at one end extending substantially across the notched end of the table, a cutter pivoted to the cover in the notch therein for severing the strips .of paper at the end of the writing table, and means for raising said cutter and swinging the frame to a ition substantially beneath the slot, sai means comprising an arm attached to the cutter, an arm attached to the frame and a lever opera- Y tively connected to each of said arms.
25. As a new article of manufacture for aligning paper, for use with a writing table,
a swinging frame comprisin a forward bar l and a rear bar between whic a plurality. of paper sheets are threaded, and means for positioning said bar to hold said sheets with the transverse perforations or scoring' therelin against the edge of a writing table to align said sheets so they will pass freely over a writing table.
26. In combination in an autographic register having a plurality of transversely fclded sheets folded along transverse score lines or perforations, a writing table having a rear edge over which the sheets pass from beneath thewriting table to a point over the writin table, a swinging frame pivoted beneath sai writing table adjacent said edge having a pair of spaced bars between which said sheets pass before passing over the writing table, and means of positioning said frame se that one of said bars will hold the sheets so that the transverse creases or series of perforations in the sheets will engage the rear edge ofthe writing table and the other of said bars,
when the frame is moved, will disenga e saidsheets from the edge of the writing tab e, and
means for actuating said frame.
