UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY K. NTZE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HELMET-LIGHTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,751, dated January 30, 1877 application led September 2, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY KEYsER NTZE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Helmet-Light, of which the following is a specication:
My invention comprises a safety reflecting light, combined with the helmet of a mincrs hat, so as to be carried safely and conveniently, and being adapted to i'asten to the breast of a person by a hook, suitably for conductors use. y
Figure 1 is partly a side elevation and partly a sectional elevation of my improved lamp, and Fig. 2 is atop View. Fig. 3 is a detail View, showing the hinging together ofthe semicircular lamp-cage and the bottom of the device.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a semicireular lamp cage or case, with a concave back, B, having a hook, C, and loops D, for connecting to the front of a hat, or to the breast of a person by straps or other suitable means, the bottom of which, E, is hinged to the bottom of the back of the case at F, so as to swing down and up for opening and closing, and it has 'a reflector, G, attached to it near the back, from which-a lamp, H, is
suspended on pivots I by arms J', so as to be held upright in any position ofthe case.
There is a back plate, I, attached to the bottom E, which closes up against the back plate J of the case, and fastens by a loop, K, and a pin, L, forvwhich latter I propose to use the scissors for trimming the lamp.
M is a wire guard to the gauze front of the lamp, and N is the handle of the lamp. The handle swings down and springs under the guard, so as to be retained by it, and forms another portion of a guard for the 4protection of the gauze. The top P and a portion ofthe bottom are constructed of wire-gauze for ventilation and for giving out thelight.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Lettersv Patent- 'lhe improved helmet-light, consisting of the case A, with concave baekplate J, bottom plate E, with concave back plate I, hinged together, and contrived to lbe fastened, as described, and having the reflectors Gr and the pivoted lamp H, arranged as described.
HENRY KEYSER NTZE, M. D.
