This invention relates to a combined'base and receptacle which, while not necessarily limited to such use, is particularly designed as a base for toy typewriters, such as those disclosed in my prior United States Letters Patents, Nos. 1,138,427 and 1,521,408.V
The outstanding object of the present invention is to provide a combined base and receptacle which embodies but few inexpensive `and simple parts capable of economical production and assembly with each other Vand with the typewriter or other article with which it is associated. More specifically, the invention resides in an article of the indicated character which includes a hollow open-ended body forming a supporting base for slidably receiving and housing a drawer therein, and inwhich said body isso fashioned as to afford a steady supporting base which will not scratch or otherwise mar the supporting surface upon which it is rested.v
The invention further resides in a drawer structure for use in connection with the base which is so fashioned as to avoid buckling and catching of the edge of the drawer in the ends of the base, and which structure permits of the production of the drawer'from an inexpensive material while possessing the req uisite ruggedness. y t
vWith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which there is exhibited one example or em# bodiment of the invention, while the claims deline the actual scope of the same.

view taken approximately on the line 4 4 of Figure 1. f Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the` combined base and receptacle includes a body designated generally lby the reference character A and a drawer desig` nated generally by the reference character B. The body A includes fa top wall 10 and integral depending side walls 11, which walls are formed at their lower ends with inwardly directed marginal flanges 12, also prefer-v ably formed integral with the side walls 11. The walls 10 and 11 and flanges 12 are preferably fashioned from a cheap grade thin gauge of sheet metal and at the juncture of the flanges 12 with the side walls 11, vsaid side walls are preferably offset laterally and outf wardly as at 13, to present internal longitudinally extending guide grooves 14. Thel body A is completed by means of a bottom wall 15, which is preferably formed ofl cardboard or analogous material having bifurf cated opposite side edges presenting upperV and lower furcations 16 and v17. Thebifurcated side edges may be variously produced, either by constructing the bottom wall 15l of two or more plies or byslitting a singleply in a plane parallel tothe upper and lower surfaces of the bottom wall. In anyevent, the furcations'l and 17 are resilient toa degree sufficient to cause the same togrip the flanges V12 and hold the bottom wall in as* sembled relation with the remainder of the body without the necessity of additional fas'- tening means. The width of the bottom wall 15 is such that when assembled with the re mainder of the body the free edges ofthe-v upper furcations 16 snugly extend into the internal grooves -14 formedV by the offset 13, thereby causing the downward deflection or ofsettingof the lower furcations 17to present supportingmargins at the opposite sides for Contact with a supporting surface upon which the base is rested. This affords a steadier supportrfor the base than would be possible if the complete lower surface of the bottom wall rested upon thesupporting surface. From the-foregoing, it will thus be seen thata combined supporting base and receptacle hasbeen devised which may be produced economically and yet which possesses certain obvious advantages and attributes due to the l particular structure thereof. j
What is claimed is: 'Y

In a combined supportingbase and receptacle, the combination of a hollow rectangular'bodyopen at its opposite ends and a rectangular drawer slidably received through said ends and snugly housed by said body, said drawer having an open upper end provided with an inwardly extending continuous marginal flange anddownturned flapsat the opposite ends of the drawer opening bearing respectively on the bottom of the drawer. In a combined supporting base andreceptacle, awhollow rectangular body open at its opposite ends and arectangular drawer constructed from a single sheet of material cut, bent, folded and secured to provide a top, bottom, side and end walls, the top wall having a central rectangular cutout dening a continuous inwardly extending marginal flange formed with downturned integral flaps at the opposite ends of the cutout tol bear against the bottom lwall of the drawer wherehousing a drawer, said base including a metall'ictop wall having integral depending side walls and integral inwardly directed flanges at the lower ends of said side walls and a non-metallic bottom wall having bifurcated Side edges receiving and frictionally engag- -ing'said side wall flanges.
