C. STOLL.
ATTACHMENT T0 MALT-CRUSHER. No. 186,636. Patented Jan.23,1877.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
CHARLES STOLL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS TO MALT-CRUSHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,636, dated January 23, 1877 application filed November 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SToLL, of Brooklyn. in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new aud use ful Improvement in Malt-Crushers, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents avertical section of my crusher. Fig. 2 is a like section in the plane a: m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view of the hood detached. Fig. 4: is a top view thereof. Fig. 5 is a side view of the same. Fig. 6 is a side view of the spout, detached. Fig. 7 is a top view thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My improvement relates especially to that class of malt-crushers which are combined with a fanning-mill in such a manner as to receive the malt directly from said mill; and it has for its object to facilitate access to the crush ing-rollers. To this end it consists in a hood arranged loosely on the top part of a bin which forms the bearings for two crushing rollers, and which receives in it the crushed malt, so that by the hood the crushing-rollers are covered and effectually protected against dirt, the hood, moreover, having a hole in its top part for the admission of malt, in combination with a spout which is slid over the hood and between its top part, and a projection formed on the side of a case which is adapted to inclose a fanning-mill in such a manner that the aforesaid hood is firmly held in place through the medium of the spout; and hence, when the spout is removed the hood can readily be displaced, and access is had to the rollers.
In the drawing, the letters A B designate two crushing-rollers placed side by side, and
having their hearings in two opposite sides of a bin, 0, on the top part of which is placed a hood, D. This hood D is placed loosely on the top part of the bin 0, and it is fitted between sills to prevent it from moving laterally, while it is provided with a hole or open- I), in its top part. Beneath the said opening I) in the top part of the nood D a valve, E, is preferably arranged to regulate the quantity of malt which is admitted through said opening. Above the hood D and its opening I) is located a spout, F, which is slid between the said hood and a projection, G, formed on one side of a case, H, within which I arrange a fanning-mill in such a way that the malt is discharged from such mill into the spout F, whence it passes between the crushingrollers. The spout F is guided on the top part of the hood D by sill 0 formed on or socured to the hood, and it is guided under the projection G by a hopper, I, depending therefrom.
Thus it will be seen that by the spout F the hood D is tightly held down on the bin 0, while if the spout is drawn out the hood can be lifted up and removed, so that free access is bad to the crushing-rollers.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The detachable hood D, having a hole, b, in its top, in combination with the sliding spout F, as described, for conveying the malt to the crushing-rolls, substantially as set forth.
In testimonythat I, claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of October, 1876.
CHARLES STOLL.
