GARMENT HANGING AND PACKAGING DEVICE Filed March 14. 1930 INVENTOIZ IOSEPH H. VINEBEQG.

Patented July 5, 1932 UNITED STATES JOSEPH HIRSCH VIN EBERG, F MONTREAL WEST, QUEBE, CANADA GARMENT HANGING AND PACKAGTNG DEVICE Application filed March 14, 1930. Serial No. 435,877.
The invention relates to combined hanging and packaging devices for garments.
The invention has for its object to provide an improved device of this kind, which is of extremely simple and inexpensive construction, which forms a neat and attractive package and in which garments can be packed very quickly and easily.
The improved device comprises a bag open at the top only, means for closing the open top, and a garment hanger secured to a wall of the bag adjacent the top thereof.
The invention further consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described-and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing which illustrates, by way of example, two convenient embodiments of the invention,
Figure 1' is a perspective view of a preferred form of the invention in open position' Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device shown in Figure 1 as it appears when in use as a hanger;
Figures 3 and 4 are perspective views of two different positions of a modified construction.
The device shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a stout paper bag having rectangular front and rear walls 1 and 2 respectively, connected by pleated side walls 3 and a pleated bottom wall 4. The walls 1, 2, 3 and 4 may be of any ordinary construction, except in that the front wall 1 and side walls 3 terminate at a short distance below the top of the rear wall 2. A rectangular flap 5 is connected with the rear wall 2 along a fold line 6. A pleated insert or web 7 is connected with the flap 5 along a fold line 8 and with the rear wall 2 along a fold line 9.
A garment hanger 10, preferably of stout paper, is mounted adjacent the top of the rear wall 2 as by means of staples 11. A handle 12, preferably formed as an integral part of hanger 10, projects from the top of the bag at the fold line 6. A I V Slits 13 may be provided between the front 50 Wall 1 and the side walls-3 down to a fold line 14, extending across the front wall for a purpose to be described later.
Gooperating fasten-ing devices 15 of any suitable type are mounted on the wall 1 and flap- 5' respectively. 7
When the device is to be used for packing a garment, the shoulders of the garment, indicated at 16, are arranged on the hanger 10 in the usual manner and the lower portion of the garment is suitably folded and placed in the bag between the front and rear walls 1 and 2. The front wall 1 is then flattened against the garment, causing the pleated walls 3 and 4 to close up the flap 5 is swung down to close the top of the bag, causing the web 7 to fold inwardly, and the flap is secured to the wall 1 by means of the fastening devices 15. The package is then ready to be carried away by means of the handle 12. A secure, attractive and substantially dustproof package is thus provided.
The device may also be used purely as a hanger, as indicated in Figure 2. In this case, the top portion of the front wall 1 may be folded down about the line 14 to provide a larger opening at the top of the bag, through which the garment 16 may hang. The handle 12 is hung on any suitable hook or peg, not shown, and the garment hangs down against the front wall 1. The flap 5 is folded downwardly and the webs 7 fold inwardly and provide substantially dust-proof protec-' tion for the shoulder portions of the garment.
The modified form of the invention shown in Figures 3 and 4 does not differ materially from that shown in Figures 1 and 2 except in the shape and arrangement of the pleated side walls 3 and webs 7. Figures 3 and 4 show the bag in opened and closed positions respectively.
The foregoing description and accompanying drawing is given by way of illustration and any further modification within the scope of the appended claims may be adopted without departing from the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A garment hanging and packaging device comprising a bag having rectangular front and rear walls, pleated side and bottom walls connecting said front and rear walls,
the rear wall extending upwardly beyond the top of said front wall, a closure flap foldably connected with the top of said rear wall, pleated dust-excluding webs foldably connected with the side edges of said flap and the upwardly extending portion of the rear wall, a garment hanger adjacent the top of said rear wall, a handle integral with said hanger and projecting from the bag at the top of the rear wall, and means for detachably fastening the flap to the front wall.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein a portion of the front wall adjacent the top thereof is not connected with the side walls, said portion being downwardly foldable ab(iut a fold line extending across the front Wa I.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
JOSEPH H. VINEBERG.
