IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,508, dated January 23, 1877; application filed October 19, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS U. UNDER- WOOD, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Weather-Strips, of which the following is a specification:
This strip is particularly adapted for use in covering joints or cracks occurring between the upper and lower sashes of a window, or between other surfaces that pass each other.
Reference is made to the accompanying drawing in explaining the nature of my invention, in which Figure l is a perspective, and Fig. 2 a crossscction, of the weather-strip. 1
The molding A is prepared upon the under portion ad'acent to the joint to be covered by forming thereon a rabbet, at, extending to the saw kerf b and rabbetc, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The elastic strip B is folded longitudinally at the center of its length, and one edge isfastened in the saw-kerf b, and the other in the recess 0.
This construction gives to the cushion-strip a superior degree of elasticity and an adaptability to the surface upon which it lies.
The advantages of this invention consist in projecting a strip from a molding in such a way that its own elasticity and adaptability to conform to the surface upon which it lies is increased by the described construction.
ent-
The weather-strip described, the same consisting of a molding, A, provided with a rabbet, a, saw'kerf b, and recess 0, and a doubled strip, B, having one edge fastened in the sawkerf and the other fastened in the recess 0, substantially 'as and for the purpose described.
