IMPROVEMENT 1N SNAPPER souNDE-Rs" 0R Tovs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,169, dated January 9, 1877; application liled November 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J oHN S. BowBoTHAM, of Wilmington, in -the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will ena-ble others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nat-ure of my invention relates to the the construction of atoy which, when operated or worked, gives a sound in imitation of a cricket, and consists in an improvement on Patent No. 160,374, dated May 2, 1875, Whereby the construction and combination of parts are improved, adapting the same for use as a toy, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a perspeotive view of the toy, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents a metal plate of any suitable dimensions, at one end of which is formed a box, B, open at its inner end. Around the upper edge of the box B are two parallel and inwardly-projecting flanges, b b, which form a groove for the insertion of a dat spring, O. That part of the spring C which lies within the box B is of such width as to form a dent inthe spring, as shown at m. By pressing down on the projecting end of the spring C, against or toward the plate A, and then releasing the same, a sound is produced resembling the chirp of a cricket. In the center of the box B there is a hole, (t, through the plate A, to increase the sound. The plate A is formed with the box in one piece, and the outer part curved on the sides and end for convenience in handling and holding while in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a toy consistingof a frame, AB, made in one piece, provided with parallel inwardly-projecting anges b b and hole a, in combination with the spring U, having depression fr, constructcd and arranged to produce a sou-nd in imitation of the chirp of a cricket, as herein set forth.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of Ytwo witnesses.
