Description

J. Q. ADAMS. Wagon-Hound.
No. 206,913. Patented Aug. 13,1878.
n. PETERS. PNUTO-LITNDGRAPHER. wAsmNGToN D C UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIGE.
JOHN Q. ADAMS, OF ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH IIIS RIGHT TO JOHN W. BROOK, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-HOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 206,913, dated August 13, 1878; application filed February 7, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN Q. ADAMS, of Royal Oak, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Reaches and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawin g, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the wagon-reach, and Fig. 2 is a piece of timber cut preparatory to bending the reach.
This invention relates to wagon-reaches; and consists in the improvements in the construction of the same hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts of the invention.
The piece of timber A has the gains a. a cut therein, as shown, to make the central portion 1) taper from the front to the rear, and the outside portions B B to taper from the rear toward the front. The piece A is then steamed and bent upon a former until it represents the shape shown in Fig. 1, when it is dropped into the gains (1 cut in the piece 0, and the piece E is placed upon it, and the parts appropriately ironed.
The tapering form of the central portion b prevents backward movement of that portion in its gain, and the opposite taper of the outer pieces B B prevents a forward movement of those portions in their gains; consequently the reach is locked between the pieces 0 and E.
The reach A being constructed in one piece, and the simplicity and cheapness of the connection, make its utility obvious to all.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The reach A, having the tapering portions b and B B, as shown and described, in combination with the pieces E and O, notched as shown, for the purposes specified.
JOHN Q. ADAMS.
