A j @aM/I j/jw UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN J. TOVER, OF BROOKLYN, NEWT YORK.
DESiGN FOR A PADLOCK-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Design No. 18,436, dated July 3,1858.
Serial No. E'nllli),
'l'orni of patent 14 years.
,To @Z whom it may ooncern.:
Be it known that I, JonN J. TowER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and Sta-Leef New York, have invented and produced a new and origina] Design for Padlocks; and the following is a specification, rei'erenee being had to the aeeompanying,r drawings forming part thereof.
In the drawing l have represented my new and original design for padloeks by a per- Speetive view representing the ease and other parts of the loek.
l'ieretofore padlocks have been made. which presented, when viewed in elevation, a Hatlened heart shape and also e.` Circular shape having a smooth exterior surface.
rlhe leading feature of my design for padloekseonsists in the. representation of a barrel the outline of which, when viewed in elevntion, presents the usual appearance ofa barrel, wherein the sides or staives composing the barY rel and the hoops and the heads are represented by raised portions and lines.
A represents the body portion of the barrel, which. is eireular in general contour and tepelu ing toward the ends; and b represents the heads. These are also circular, and lines are shown to representthe divisions of the heads.
a` represents the sides and by the longitudinal lines the barrel stoves, and c repre sents the hoops, and c the end hoops, the outline ofthe barrel bei ng identical in its representation with that of a` real barrel.
d represents the hasp of the padloek, :ind e, at one end of the barrel, represents the key. The shape and configuration of the hasp and key may be varied or otherwise located than as shown Without materially departing `from my new and original design, the essential fea ture of which is a representation of a barrel for a padlock.
I elaimz as my invention- The design fora padlock-ease herein shown and described, the same consisting ofthe barrel-shaped body A, having the hasp or loop d projecting centrally, and having the slot b in one head, substantially as specified.
Signed by lne this 23d day of May, 1888.
