Description

y 1932- w. J. RAFTE Y 1,858,938
SMOKERS APPLIANCE Filed Feb. 6, 1951 72 Sheets-Sheet l Inventor 7 A Home y May 17, 1932. w. J. RAFTEY SMOKERS APPLIANCE Filed Feb. 6, 1951 2 Sheets-Sheet o o o Inventor W 7. 124/7 7 @j/ A llorney Patented May 17, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I W nn! .1. or mun max, m iron! a lication ma I'ebmary 0, m1. mm Io. $13,005.
This invention relates to smokers appliance and has more particular reference to a smoking tube or a so called cigar or cigarette ash retainer, the object of the present in- 5 vention being to provide a device of the character above mentioned, that is capable of ready application to a cigarette holder, the device being further adapted to accommodate the lit cigarette to prevent hot ashes 1 from the cigarette. falling on to a table or like support, thus providing a safety apgliance as a guard a ainst possible fire as results from care essness.
Other objects and advantages of the invention, and the nature of the invention will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the :0 device, the same being shown as applied to a cigarette holder.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Figure 3 is a transverse sectional-view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a closure cap.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a shield.
Figure 6 is a similar view of a perforated tube.
Figure 7' is a perspective view of an asbestos ring.
With reference more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that 5 designates a conventional type of cigarette holder, or mouth piece while 6 designates a ci arette one end of which is suitably arrange in the proper end of the holder or mouth piece 5. The cigarette is herein shown as being lit.
The invention per se consists of an elongated perforated tube 7 open at each end. The tube 7 is adapted to accommodate therein the cigarette 6, and said tubev is adapted to accommodate in one end thereof the cigarette supporting end of the mouth piece or holder 5.
Disposed circumjacent about the perforated tube 7, in relatively spaced relation are rings 8, the same being formed of asbestos material.
clearly suggested in Fi Dis sed circumjacent the tube 7, and space therefrom through the medium of the rings 8 is a c lindrical shield, the same comprising end s eeves 9 connected by an annular series of circumferentially spaced strips 10. 56 The said shield ma be formed of any suitable material, an is substantially of a length corresponding to the length of the perforated tube 7.
For closing that end of the tube 7 farthest 60 remote from the mouth iece 5, is a perforated cap '11, the same ing threaded for threaded engagement with an end sleeve 9 as When the tube shiel and cap 7 arranged as illustrated and specifically described herein, is properl associated with the mouth piece 5, it will apparent that the ap liance will in no wise interfere with the smo ing of the cigarette or cigar as the case may be dependent upon the type of holder 5, and that further the device will act as a receptacle for receiving the ashes as they fall from the burning end of the cigarette thus preventing 1 the ashes from scattering, and in the event the cigarette or cigar, with my appliance associated with the holder of the cigar or cigarette, be placed on a table the possibilit of fire is eliminated since the hot ashes wi 1 be prevented from coming into contact with the cover of the table or with any other inflammable object or material.
Further, the asbestos rings 8 serving to space the shield from the tube 7 will prevent the shield from becoming too hot as to be touched by the hand;
The operation of the device will be entirel clear from the above description without urther explanation, and it is to be understood, that the invention is susceptible of changes, modifications and improvements coming within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: A smokers appliance includin in combination a casing for accommodating a cigarette projecting from one end of a cigarette holder, said casing com risin inner and outer concentric tubes 0 equa length, the
