The present iiiventionrelates to newl and useful improvements in garmeiit stretchers,
and morel particularly itpertains to a device for pressing and creasing,and for taking the bag out ot the knees ot' iiiens trousers. It is'one of the objects of the invention to providea device of the 'aforementioned character which may be inserted into the leg poi-, tion ofa pair: of trousers in order that the'lsaid leg portion may be stretclied'to proper form and the bag removed from theknee portion 2O use and thereby reduced in size in ordertliat the same may be more ieadily portable oi' re! quire Acoii'iparati'vely less space in storage.
A. Afurther object of the' invention resides in a novel means whereby the trousers legs are provided with a crease after they have been left upon the stretcher suiiicient time.
Vith the above and other objects in view,
reference will be had to the accompanying i drawings forming a. part of this application, and in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view ot a trousers stretcher constructed in accordance with the present invention, illustrating the same in its 35eXtende,d form, l
Figure 2 is a. vien7 in elevation illustrating the manner in which the device is used, Figure 3 is an edge View of Figure 2, Figure 4 is an edge view illustrating' the wrdevice in its folded position,
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail fragmentary view illustrating the pivotal construction ot the device,
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional View taken fitlirough one of the frame members of the device,
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective vieW illustra-ting the construction of one of the .elements of the frame member, Figure 8 is a similar View showing the parts in a partallylfolded posit-ion; and;
Figure 9 is a detailperspective view. "Referring again to thedraWings, the de- 'vice' comprises tWo frame ylike* members A and'B. Each of these frame like members A. andB comprises twof side members 10 and 11, and each of these side members 10 and 1l comprise tWo members hingedly connectedv together as at 12. As best illustrated in Figures 7 1 and 8, these members are held in rigid positioiiagainst movement 4about their pivotal point 12 by means of a U-sliaped metal clipl 13 which embraces thelmember's and is slidably mounted thereon. To maintain the members vagainst movement about their pivotal point 12; the U-sliaped metal member 13 is moved to the position in Which it is shown in'Figui'e 7, and When it is desired to fold thev device as illustrated in Figure 4;, the
V'Referring again to Figure 1, it' Will be noted that Vthemembers 10 of each of the frames are pivotally connected as at 15, and the members 131 of the frames are pivotally connected as 'at 16 to permit the trames to lbe swung to* Ward and awayxfrom each other. The pivitalportion 15 of' themembers 10 comprisesv ahollow tube or similar member 17,'and the pivotalmember ofthe members 11 consists of a rod or the like 18 which telescopes Within the tube17 as illustrated at 19."v The rod 18 is providedwith a series'of teeth y2Ov and a spring clip 21v isadapted to engagevvith theseteeth to maintain the pivoted ends of the members 1() andll in adjusted spaced position. By reference to Figure 5 it Will be notedthat the spring clip has a body portion 22 Which surrounds the tubular member 17 and a project-ing thumb piece 23 beneath which is mounted aspring 24. Suitable liandle's or'iinger pieces such as 25 may be pro videdvto aid in the adjusting movement of the members Aand B. I i f Y The members 10 'and 11 are preferably formed' of Wood, and have an end such'as 28 inserted into .metallic sleeve like members 29 in the present embodiment of the inventionv comprises a tubular member 38 secured as at 39 to the members 10 and 'a bar or thelike 40 secured as at 41 to the members 11.k The bars 4() are provided vwith teeth or the like 42, and have telescoping engagement with their respective tubular member38, and a `V,spring clip such as 21 heretofore described;I and designated 43 yis employedas heretofore described. Y
Otherwise expressed, the invention. forniing the subject of this application might beV Y said to be in the form of a pairof frames,
consisting of sidelymembers havinghinge plates with the hinge plate of one frame in- A terlocked with the hinge plate ofthe other frame while the' hinge pins 17 and 18 Vwhich join the hinge plates are extended `beyond the hinge plates into interfittingv relation as shown in Figure 1 so that corresponding `adjustment of the twoV frames may be effected by an adjustment of ythe overlapping :por-
tions of the hinge pins 17 and 18.
' From the foregoing described construction,
it will be apparent that the frame like Lmembers A and B are pivotally connected-,to 'cach other, and that the vmembers 10 and 11 off each frame like memberare adjustable in di- 'rections towardand away yfrom veach otherA to fit varying sizes of trousers legs.
. In use, theV members A and Bare inserted in separate legs of apair of-trousers and vafter being properly positioned therein, the
adjusting devices are operated to provide the 'v necessary adjustment between the membersA 10 and `11 to place the 'trousers under tension and causethe blade like members 32 to form a sharpcrease as 33 in the trousers legs. Y
After the device'has been left/yin a pair of trousers suflicient length of time, lthe trou-.
sers will bestretched, the bags `removed from the knee thereof and the trousers legs will be formed with. a creaseextending throughout the length thereof in the lproper position relative thereto. I Y n From the. foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention provides anew and iniproved trousers stretcher in whichlthe trou.
sers may be properly shaped merely byinserting the device into the. legs of the trou.- sersand placing said trousers legs under tension by adjustment of theparts.' Y
f While theinvention has been-herein, illus-p' trated in a preferred form, it is to be understood'that the invention is not limited to the specific construction herein shown, but that it may be carried out in other forms without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and what itis desired to secure Vby- Letters-Patent of the 'United States, is;
1. lnV a stretcher for trousers, a pair of frameshaving spaced side members, hinge plates secured to said side members, hinge pins extending through said hinge plates to hingedly join said pair of frames and extend- `ed beyond said hinge plates, the extended portions of said hinge pins being slidably associated, and a locking device on the extended portions of said hinge .pins for securing vthe side members of each frame in corre-Y sponding adjustment. j 2. In a. stretcher for trousers, a pair of frames-having spacedside members, hinge plates secured to the upper portions of said side members, hinge pins extending through said hinge plates to hingedly join said pair of frames and extended beyond said hingeVV plates, one of said hinge pins being'of .tubu-v lar formation and adjustably receiving the other hinge pin, a latch means carried by one of said hinge pins, the other hinge pin being provided with notches for engagement by said latch, and means remote from said hinge pins for adjustably connecting the side memj bers of each frame. j'
Intestimony whereof we aix our signatures.
