This invention relates to pallet holders for the use of jewellers when securing stones to the pallets and has-for its object the production of a simple and inexpensive tool of this character which will be very effective when 1n use. 7
This object is attained by. the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
For the purpose of illustrating the inven- 15 tion, one preferred form thereof is illustrated in the drawings, this form having been found to give satisfactory'and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instruinetalities of which the in- Li vention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described except as required by the scope of the appended claims.
Of the drawings Figure 1 represents a plan of pallet holder embodying the principles of the present invention.

Supported by and secured to this extension 1 12with' one end thereof extending into the forked end 11 of the handle lO'is a support 13 from-the forward end of which extends downwardly a pair of pins 14.
The support 13 is composed of an imperforate plate 15 and a superimposed perfoplate 16 by means of a spring 2700.

The under plate 15 has a groove 22 cut into the upper face thereof alined with a slot 22m in the upper plate 16 (see Fig. 3).
Located within the opening are two cylindrical depressions 23 and 24 formed in the under plate 15 and adapted to receive the pivot pins of pallets.
These'depressions 23 and 24 are of dilferent sizes to accommodate them for the pins of different sizes of pallets.
Within the opening 20 and formed in the upper face of the lower plate 15 is another cylindrical depression 25 which is used to position on the support 13, the form of pallet shown in Fig. 7. I
Extending upwardly from the handle 10 and riveted thereto is a supporting member pivot 26 having pivoted thereto at 27, a clamp lever 28, the forward end 29a2of which is adapted'to be held normally in contact with the upper This spring 27:10 is secured at 2800 to the handle'lO and its free end, extends into. a slot 29 on the under side of theclamp lever 28.

In Fig. 6 of the drawings is shown a pallet 32 having a pivot pin 33 adapted to be insertedinto the hole 24 and provided with an arm 34 adapted to be positioned'in the slot The forked end 35 of the arm 34 rests on the upper face of the under plate 15 within the perforation 21 with the pin 36 therein extending into the groove 22.
The curved ends 37 rest against a wall of the perforation 20.
When the lever 28 is lowered so that its forward end 29% rests on the pallet 32 the upper end of the pivot pin will be positioned in the slot 30 thereof. 7
By these means the pallet 32 will be firmly held so that the workman may insert the pallet stones 38 into the slots 39.
Before these pallet stones 38 are inserted into the slots 39 the inner ends thereof are covered with shellac or some similar material and then the support 13 is placed over a flame to heat the shellac sufficiently tosoften it and permit the stone 38 to be accurately adjusted.
When the shellac hardens the stone will be retained permanently in adjusted position. As the lower plate 15 is imperforate the flame cannot contact with any part of the pallet 32 and injure or discolor the same.
A smaller pallet 40 is shown in Fig. 8
which is retained in position in the same manner, the pivot pin 41 in this case being inserted into the depression 23.
In Fig. 8 the pallet 40 is shown without the pallet stones 38 positioned in the slots 39.
Another form of pallet is shown in Fig. 7, this pallet 42 having a pivot pin 43 adapted to be inserted into the depression 24 and another pin 44. adapted to be inserted into the depression 25.
When the pallets are clamped in position on the support 13 the insertion of the pallet stones 38 into the slots 39 is greatly facilitated and should a stone bedropped by the workman during the operation, it will fall onto the lower plate 15 within the perforation 20 where it may be picked up readily.
When the tool is not in use it is supported on a table or bench by the pins 14-.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof and providedin the upper face thereof with depressions to receive the pivot pins of pallets; an immovable plate superimposed thereon and provided with two perforations to re ceive the body portions of said pallets; a perpendicular support on said handle; and a spring-pressed clamp lever pivoted thereto and having a forked end normally contacting with said perforated plate at a point between said perforations.
2. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof and provided with means for positioning the pivot pins of pallets; an immovable plate superimposed thereon and provided with two perforations to receive the body portions of said pallets; widely separated supporting pins extending downwardly from said imperforate plate; a perpendicular support on said handle; and a spring-pressed clamp lever pivoted thereto and having a forked end normally contacting with said perforated plate at a point between said perforations.
3. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof; an immovable plate superimposed thereon having alined perforations to receive the body portions of pallets; depressions in the upper face of the under plate to receive the pivot pins of said pallets; a perpendicular support on said handle; and a spring-pressed clamp lever pivotedthereto and having a forked end normally contacting with said perforated plate at a point between said perforations.

In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof; an immovable plate superimposed thereon and secured thereto, the perforations in which are of considerable size and connected by a narrow slot; a perpendicular support on said handle; and a spring-pressed clamp lever pivoted thereto and having a forked end normally contacting with said perforated plate at a point above said slot.
5. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof and having in its upper face an elongated depression and cylindrical depressions adapted to receive the pivot pins of pallets; an immovable plate superimposed thereon and provided with perforations to receive the body portions of said pallets; a perpendicular support on said handle: and a springpressed clamp lever pivoted thereto and having a forked end normally contacting with said perforated plate at a point between said perforations.
6. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof and having in its upper face an elongated depression and cylindrical depressions adapted to receive the pivot pins of pallets; an immovable plate superimposed thereon having alined perforations to receive the body portions of pallets. one of said perforations being above said elongated depression; and clamping means for said pallets at a point between said perforations.
7. In a pallet holder, a handle: an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof. and provided with pin receiving depressions; an immovable plate superimposed thereon having large perforations in alinement and connected by a narrow slot, said slot and perforations being adapted to receive the body portions'of pallets; a perpendicular support on said handle: and meansfor clamping the pallets positioned in said perforations.
8. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof and provided with pin receiving depressions; a perforated plate superimposed thereon having connected perforations therein adapted to receive the body portions of pallets; supporting pins extending downwardly from said imperforate plate; and means for clamping a pallet to said perforated plate.
9. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate plate secured to one end thereof; an immovable plate superimposed thereon having connected perforations therein adapt-ed to receive the body portions of pallets; depressions in the upper face of the under plate to receive the pivot pins of said pallets; and means for clamping a pallet to said per forated plate at a point between said perforations.
10. In a pallet holder, a handle; an imperforate pallet supporting plate secured to one end thereof provided in its upper face with a plurality of depressions for positioning said pallet; an immovable plate secured to the upper face of said imperforate plate provided with a, plurality of perforations to receive the body portion of a pallet; and means f(I)r clamping the pallet to said supporting p ate.
11. In a pallet holder, a handle; a support at one end thereof having two walled palletreceiving recesses in the upper face thereof connected by a narrow slot and provided with depressions extending downwardly from these recesses adapted to receive the pins of said pallets; and means for clamping said pallets at a point above said connecting slot.
12. In a pallet holder, a handle; a support at one end thereof having two walled palletreceiving recesses in the upper face thereof connected by a narrow slot and provided with cylindrical depressions extendingdownwardly from one of these recesses and an elongated depression extending downwardly from the other recess, said depressions being adapted to receive the pins of said pallets; and means for clamping said pallets at a point above said connecting slot.
