Description

May 10, 1932. J. ARNOLD PRICE INDICATOR Filed ma 4, 1951 A llorney Patented May 10, 1 932 JOHN ARNOLD, BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA PRICE IiInIcA'iOR Application filed May 4, 1931. Serial No."535,013.
This invention is a device for use by storekeepers for accurately announcing the price of an article or articles, the primary object of the invention being to provide such a de vice that may be readily supported on a shelf adjacent the article in'connection with which it is to be used, and further to provide such a device which may be easily adjusted to indicate the correct price of that particular article. d
Other objects and advantages of the in vention will become apparent from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an indicator embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view take substantially on the line .33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is aview similar to Figure 3 taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a plan view of a portion of an endless display belt or ribbon.
With reference more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that my price indicator comprises a shell like ca'sing6 provided in the rear wall thereof with an elongated opening 7 whereby access may be had to the interior of the casing.
In that form of the invention shown in Figures 1 and 3, the casing 6 is provided on the front wall thereof intermediate its ends with a pair of adjacent sight openings Sand 9. Arranged within the casing, and extending longitudinally thereof and in longitudinal alinement one with the other are endless display belts or ribbons 10 and 11. Each of the posite the opening 8, and the desired number i on the belt 11 is placed opposite the opening 9, the two numbers displayed or viewed through the openings 8, 9 thus indicating the price of the article with which the price in- 5 dicator is associated. Such will be apparent from a study of Figure 1. v j
That form of the invention shown in Figures land 3 is intended for use where the price to be shown requires two numerals for I 15. Arranged Within the casing are two longitudinally extending alined' endless belts or ribbons 16 and 17 ribbon 16 being capable of displaying the numerals thereon through the opening13 and ribbon 17 being capable of displaying the numerals thereon through the opening 15.
The belts or ribbons 16, 17 at their adjacent turns or bends are arranged in spaced relation for accommodating the offset portion 18 of a run of a third endless belt or ribbon 19. The endless belt'orribbon 19 is trained. over suitable guide rollers or pins 20, a pair of such pins'being located adjacent the opening 14 so that a portion of one run of the endless belt or ribbon 19 will pass in proximity to the opening 1% so that a selected one of thenu nerais on the outer face of the belt or ribbon 19 will be displayed'through the opening 14. Obviously, the belt 16 adjacent each numeral thereof will be provided with a decimal point as suggested in Figure 4.
Any suitable means may be utilized for positioning and holding the device on a shelf adjacent the particular article with whichit is to be used, for displaying the price of that article.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible of further changes, modifications and improvements coming within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, wha I claim as new is: r
1. A price indicator comprising a casing provided on one wall thereof with three laterally spaced sight openings, a pair of enda less display belts arranged in the casing in longitudinal, alinement and terminating in spaced relation at confronting turns or bends of said belts, each of said belts having a portion thereof extending across one of said sight openings, a third endless belt arranged in said casing and having a portion of one run thereof in longitudinal alinement with corresponding runs of the first mentioned belts, said third belt having said portion thereof extending across the remaining sight opening.
2. An indicator comprising in combination a casing having a wall provided with a plura-lity of relatively spaced windows, and a plurality of endlessbelts in the casing and so arranged, as to have two of such belts in longitudinal alinement, and a third one of said belts laterally spaced relative to the first named two belts with a portion of one run of the third belt arranged between adjacent turns of the first named two belts, and each of said belts having indicia characters adapted to be exposedthrough one of said windows.
8. An indicator of the character described comprising a relatively elongated relatively shallow shell-like casing provided with a rear wall. having an access opening elongated longitudinally, with a front wall provided with a plurality of sight apertures, a'plurality of endless belts arranged in the casing, and each of said belts having a portionvof a run thereof adapted to be exposed through one of the sight openings, said belts being so arranged as to have a portion of one of said belts traveling between adjacent turns of two remaining belts. V
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
, JOHN L. ARNOLD.
