Description

F. PIPER TOILET BOWL May 10, 1932.
Filed Jan. 17, 1931 Patented May 10, 1932 UNITED STATES FREDERICK PIPER, OF PORTLAND, OREGON TOILET BOWL Application filed January 17, 1931. Serial No. 509,519.
My invention relates to toilet bowls and to the necessity for catching and properly directing misdirected urine or other deleterious substances from falling to the floor, to the detriment of floors, carpets, or other furnishings in toilet rooms.
The object of my invention therefore is to provide an apron which readily can be attached to a toilet bowl and remain in a convenient position when said toilet bowl is being used by a male person.
Other features of my invention and the preferred construction and the operation of the parts whereby I attain the object above specified are hereunder set forth, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a standard toilet embodying my invention when not in position for use with portion broken away to show details of construction thereof, and:
Figure 2 is a plan view of the upper portion of a standard toilet with seat and seat cover elevated and portion broken away to show side view of invention ready for use.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the toilet bowl showing apron in elevated position ready for use.
Figure 4: is a sectional elevation of my device taken 011 lines 4t of Figure 2 of same upright.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the apron showin shape thereof for purpose of drainage and convenience for use.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the clamp which is attached to the toilet bowl together with one of the springs which raises and holds the apron upwardlyin position for use.
My invention consists of an apron a of metal or other suitable material having at one end arms I) bent at right angles and pivotally mounted on a rod a secured upon a clamping member d. This clamp is provided with a curved portion cl, which fits over the front of the rim h of the toilet bowl h, and also a curvedportion d which clamps under the inner rim of the bowl as at if. Springs f mounted on the rod 0 at each side have one end thereof as f fitted into notches b on the arms 7) of the apron and the. other ends f bearing upon thesurface of the clamp,
thus allowing the apron to be bent over as by the lowering of the toilet seat g, but free to spring upward when seat is raised.
The front end of the apron is built in the form of a slight cup as at aflthus to more efficiently provide for any liquid that may remain on the apron as the same is lowered, also the sides are flanged as at a Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A sanitary shield comprising a clamping member adapted to be placed on the rim of a 1 closet bowl, an apron hinged to said clamping member, a sprlng on the hinge member for causing the apron to assume an inclined position above the rim of the bowl.
