Description

May 10, 1932. AJH. KARPF WRIST WATCH PROTECTOR Filed March 19. 1931 FIGURE. A.
ALFRED H.KARPF INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented May- 10, 1932 PATENT OFFICE ALFRED H. KARPF, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK WRIST WATCH PROTI ICTOR Application filed larch 19, 1931. Serial No. 523,751.
This invention relates to protectors or uards and more particularly to protectors or wrist watches and the like while it is bein worn.
nder certain conditions it is highly desirable that wrist watches, while bein worn, should be protected-from water and irt. It has been proposed in the past to provide water-proof protectors for wrist watches but they have been of such construction that they are expensive to manufacture and have necessitated that the wrist watch be removed from the wearer's erson and inserted in some form of easing. 3/ urthermore, these protectors have been bulky and of such construction that they had to be individually designed to fit different sizes and she )es of wrist watches and were not universal y applicable to all shapes and designs.
I11 accordance with the present invention,
water-proof jewelry protectors suitable for wrist-watches, while being worn, are pro-' vided which can be simply fitted over any wrist watch without the necessity of removing the wrist watch from the wearer and which at the same time do not hamper the movement of the arm. Another feature of the invention involves a protector of flexible material made in annular formwhichcovers the wrist watch to be protected and at its edges closely engages the arm of the wearer to prevent dust or moisture from reaching the watch when worn. Another feature of the invention includes the provision of a jewelry protcctorof such design that, when worn, it imprisons a certain amount of air about the wrist watch to be protected and thereb prevents moisture or dirt from reaching 1t.
Referring to the drawing, there is re resented in dotted lines a wrist-watch 1 hel by a suitable bracelet 2 on the arm 3 of the wearer. In order to protect the wrist-watch against water or dirt, a flexible, annular band 4, encircling the wrist of the wearer and covering the wrist-watch and its bracelet, is
provided. This band is of such size that it closely engages the top of the watch and the free edges thereof closely engage the wrist of .the wearer. In order to prevent the free edges of the band from tearing and in order to insure that they will closely enga e the wrist of the wearer, there may be provi ed reinforcing ribs 5 at the extreme edges of the band and other reinforcing ribs 6 slightly spaced therefrom. These ribs may be molded in the material comprising the may be transparent or that the parts thereof,
except that above the dial of the watch, may lncorporate one or more colors to produce a decorative effect. It will be noted that portions of the band 4 especially those parts at and between the ribs 5 and 6 at each side of the watch, make water-proof engagement with the wrist of the user, while there is imprisoned under the band at the sides of the watch 1 and the bracelet 2, a pocket of air 7 which is an additional precautionary means for preventing water from reaching the wrist watch.
From the foregoing, it will be observed that a wrist watch protector has been provided which is inexpensive to manufacture and which is readily applied to the wrist watch while being worn without the necessity of removing the article from the wearer and without hampering the movements of the wearer while the protector is being worn.
lVhat I claim is: Y
1. A wrist-watch protector comprising a band of transparent water-proof material completely covering the wrist-watch when worn, said band engaging the wearers forearm to form therewith a water-tight enclosure for said wrist-watch.
2. A wrist-watch protector comprising an annular band of water-proof,flexible-material, at least a part of which is transparent, completely coveringthe wrist-watch when worn, said annular band at its edges engaging the wearers fore-arm to form therewith a water-tight enclosure for said wrist-watch. 3. A wrist-watch protector comprising an annular band of transparent, water-proof, flexible material completely covering the wrist-watch when worn, said annular band being provided with a reinforcing rib near each edge whereby the band engages the wearers fore-arm to form therewith a watertight enclosure for said wrist-watch.
In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 17th da of March, A. D. 1931.
