My invention relates to steam` bath furnaces and an object of the same is to provide a portable structure which may be placed in the bathroom of a dwelling or other room for the purpose of generating steam therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a steam bath apparatus consisting of a casing for the reception of stones or other heat retaining objects to be heated by a heating medium within the casing, and means for discharging water onto the heated stones to produce a vapor or steam.
`With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangements of parts and operations to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken on line 1 4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the invention in detail a substantially rectangular casing 5 formed of sheet metal is provided. The upper end of the casing is provided with a hood or topV 6 which is hinged as at 7. The casing may be of various shapes and suitably ornamented.
In order to hold the hood or cover in raised position a resilient latch bar 8 is pror vided and has one end secured to the `upper wall of the casing and its opposite end extending through a slot 9 in the hood or cover. A bevelled projection or keeper 10 is formed on the inner face of the latch bar adjacent its forward end so that upon raising of the cover to normal position the keeper passes into thev slot 9 and engages one of thewalls of thelatter.
A sheet metal fire box 11 is arrangedin the casing and extends the entire length thereof and has its side and rear end walls spaced from the casing. For the purpose of supplying water to the objects 17 a horizontally extending perfo- Y rated pipe 18 extends transversely of the casing above the objects and is provided with an upstanding funnel 19 at its outer end,
the latter being disposed laterally of the casing so that when water is poured therein it will be discharged onto the rocks where it is instantly vaporized.
In practice the hood is yclosed until suliicient heat has been created within the casing to form vapor. After sufficient heat has been attained the hood is raised and when water is applied on the vaporizing medium the vapor will rise therefrom and into the f room in which the device is arranged.
What is claimed is:
1. In a vapor bath generator, the combination of a shell defining a fire box, a casing enclosing said lire box and in spaced relation thereto, avflue in communication with an upper portion of said fire box and extending in a plane horizontal therewith, a verticallyl disposed flue in communication with said first named flue and in spaced relation to said casing, heat retaining Vobjects positioned within the space defined by said casing,ire box and flues, means for spraying a liquid on said heat storing means for generation of a vapor, said casing having an openy ing in its top extending over a major portion thereof, and a hinged hood for closing said opening.`
2. In a vapor bath generator, the combination of a shell defining a fire box, an open ended casing enclosing said tire box and in spaced relation thereto, a Hue in communicationl with an upper portion of said Vlire box and extending in a plane horizontal therewith, a vertically disposed Hue in Communication With said Hrst named Hue and in Y spaced relation to said casing, heat retaining objects positioned Within the space defined by said casing, Hre box andHues, a closure for said open ended casing comprising a portion rigidly secured to said casing and having an aperture for accommodation 'of said vertically disposed Hue anda hood member hingedly mounted to said rigid member,
and means carried by said rigid member for spraying aliquid on said heat storing means for generation of a vapor. f f
