This invention relates to comb guides for cutting hair. 7

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a comb guide for use by individuals I or barbers and particularly designed to facilitate the proper cutting of the hair either by means of the mechanical hair clipper or scissors. Another object of my invention is to proto regulate the length of hair to be cut according to the prevailing practice of cutting the hair shorter in the back and on the sides.

More specifically my invention relates to a mechanical comb in which the comb teeth are of increasing thicknesses and uniformly spaced from the extreme outer edge toward the handle or manipulating means whereby the hair may be cut to the proper length in an the minimum period of time.

To enable others'skilled in the art to more fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification in which Fig. 1 is a side view showing my invention.

5, 6 designate a pair of complementary handles having a finger hold 7 and a thumb hold 8 on the sides thereof and preferably integral therewith. The finger and thumb holds are positioned so that the handles may be conveniently gripped and manipulated. The handles are pivotally connected at the top extremities, as at 9a, for inwardly and outward movement relative toeach other 1n explained.

The said handles are uniformly curved inwardly as shown clearly by Fig. 1 and are each formed with an integral comb body 9, 10. Each comb body recedes in thickness from a point 12 at the bottom of the respective handle vide a comb guide constructed and arranged.

It will thus be seen that the extreme inner teeth 15 are considerably thicker and spaced wider-apart than the fine teeth 15 a adjacent the outer end of the comb, said teeth of both comb bodies being in overlapping relation as shown more clearly by Fig. 2 of the drawings. Consequently, bysprea'ding the handles, the teeth of the combs may pass through the hair as the handles areagain moved toward'each other so that the length of hair above the comb teeth as presented, to'the clippers for scissors uniformly decreases in length.

The handles are so shaped with respect to the comb bodies that the clippers or scissors may be operated across the top of the teeth andthroughout the length of the combs without interference. The handles thus permit the combs to be spread apart sufficiently so that the comb teeth of each comb body pass through the hair as the handles are manipulated toward each other, thus presenting the hair above the comb-teeth to be cut to the particularly cutting instrument employed.

It will of course be understood that since the pivot 9 is disposed in the same horizontal plane as the comb bodies, the handles may be spread apart by the fingers so that the comb teeth'are entirely disengaged from each other but, when the said handles are urged'toward each other, the comb teeth passing through the hair enter the recesses or spaces between the teeth in the manner shown Fis- While I have shown and described myinvention with some degree of particularity, it will be realizedthat other modifications and changes may-be resorted to under special conditions. A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles each having a comb body and teeth formed therewith uniformly increasing in thickness from the outer end of said body toward said handles.

2. A comb guide comprising a pair of handles pivotally connected at one end and each formed with a comb body at its opposite end, said comb bodies having teeth extending to- Wards each other and increasing in thickness from the outer end thereof toward said handles.

3. A comb guide comprising a pair of downwardly curved handles pivotally connected at their upper ends, finger holds on said handles, a comb body formed with the lower end of each of said handles, said comb bodies having teeth increasing in thickness from their outer ends toward said handles.

4. A comb guide comprising a pair of downwardly curved handles, pivotally connected at their upper ends, finger holds on the sides of said handles, a comb body formed with the lower end of said handles, said comb bodies having teeth increasing in thickness from their outer ends toward said handles, the inner thicker comb teeth being spaced from the lower ends of said handles.

A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handleseach having a comb body and teeth formed therewith uniformly increasing in width from the outer end of said body toward said handles. the center distances between adjoining teeth increasing from the outer end of said body toward said handles.

A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles each having a comb body and teeth formed therewith uniformly increasing in width from the outer end of said body toward said handles. the center distances between adjoining teeth increasing from the outer end of said body toward said handles, substantially proportionately to the increase in width of said teeth.

7 A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles, and a comb body extending from the free end of each of said handles, said comb bodies having teeth increasing in thickness from the outer end of said bodies toward said handles.

8. A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles, and a comb body angularly extending from the free end of each of said handles, said comb bodies having teeth increasing in thickness from the outer end of said bodies toward said handles.

9. A comb guide comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles, and a comb body angularly extending from the free end of each of said handles, said comb bodies having teeth increasing in thickness from the outer end of said bodies toward said handles, the

bodies fitting between the teeth of the other body in substantially a common plane which is substantially parallel with, and removed from, the axis of said pivotal connection.
