This invention'relates to mount members attachable to a backing to receive and confine upon the backing,'corners of a rectangular article or card, such as a photographic fiprint.
The chief object of the invention is to provide as an article of manufacture, and at a very small expense, a blankcontainingmaterial for a plurality of corner. mount members, and adapted to be conveniently and-accurately converted by a user into a plurality of said members each including a triangular pocket having'a freeedge on its hypotenuse defining a pocket mouth, and-anangular neck, defining a closed pocket end or bottom, each mount member'includingialso a gummed attaching flange located'outside the pocket and joined to and projecting from the'angular neck thereof and attachable to abacking, the
flange and pocket being in parallel planes, said corner members being producible by severing the blank on predetermined straight lines by a simple and readily available instrumentality such as ordinary scissors or shears. 7

' I'will first describe the preferred embodiment shown by Figures l'to '7, inclusive.
My improved bla nkis made from a substantially rectangular sheet of material such as paper, having a dried gum coating 12 (Figure 2) on one of its sides. Said sheet may be relatively narrow as shown by Figure 1, and provided wit-hone row of the bosses next described, or maybe wider and provided'with a plurality of said rows as shown by Figure 3.

form thereon a plurality of substantially square bosses 13 which maybe arranged in a single row, as shown by Figure 1, or a' plu- 8o rality' of rows as shown by Figure 3, the bosses being spaced apart so that they are surrounded by a flat portion of the blank,isaid portion and the bosses being in parallel planes; The edges of the bosses are parallel withthe edges of the blank and the bosses project from the side of the flat portion opposite the coated side and'are stiffened by the gum coating. j
The bosses 13 p-rovidematerial for the triangular pockets, and the flat portion ofthe blankv provides material, for the angular flanges hereinafter described. The blank is preferably provided with marks printed thereon to indicate the location of straight cuts made bya cutting tool employed to subdivide the blank. e
The arrangement is such that-when the blank shown by Figure 3 is subdivided .by I straight cuts indicated by dotted lines a extending diagonally of the blank and between diagonally opposite corners of the bosses 13, other straight cuts indicated by dotted lines 0 extending crosswise of the blank and between adjacent bosses, and other straight cuts indicated by dotted lines 0 extending lengthwise of the blank, the triangular corner members shown by Figures 5, 6 and 7 are produced.
The narrow blank shown by Figure 1 requires subdivision only on the lines a and '0. The location of said cuts is preferably indicated by marks 7i printed on-theblanks as shown by Figure 4. Said marks are shown by solid lines and are practically obliter ated by the operation .of subdividing the blank by instrumentalities such as ordinary scissors or shears.
Each corner member produced as above described includes a triangularpocket 13 constituting one-half of a. boss 13, said pocket having a free edge 13" on its hypotenuse de fining the mouthof a pocket adapted to receive a corner of amounted article or card 9. The, pocket has also a right angled neck 13, defining the closed end or bottom of the pocket. vA corner member thus provided with a pocket, is provided also with an angular attaching flange 16 joined to and projecting from the neck 13 andformed from a part of the flat portion of the blank. Said neck offsets thepocket from the'flange so that the pocket and flange are in parallel planes. The
ange-has a portion of the gum coating 12 on its inner side so that it is attachable to a backing The angular flange 16 has aright angled'salient vouter edge, and a reentrant inner edge joined tothe neck 13.
The blank shown by Figure 8 and a corner member produced therefrom shown by Figures 9 and 10, differ from the blank and corner member above :described, in that the edges of the bosses-13 are oblique-to the edges of the blank. The locations of straight cuts converting the blank into corner members are indicated by i and in Figure 8. The attaching flange 16 of each corner member is approximately rectangular and oblong as shown by Figures 9 and 10, and extends obliquely on the backing f as shown by Figure 10.
Itwill be seen that blanks characterized as described are-very inexpensive and prepared by: the simple operations of embossing sheets of gummed paper and printing the indicating marks thereon. The embossing operation is performed by-a male and a female die acting on Opposite sides ofthe blank, and the printing operationmay be performed by adapting the female die to print the lines it during the embossing operation. The female die may be also adapted to apply to the flanges 16, a tint or color contrasting with that ofthe paper, and thus impartavariegated effect to the outer sides of the corner member, the pocket member 13 retaining the color of the paper.
A portion of the female die is shown by Figures 11 and 12, the die having a flat face m interrupted by the square cavities it into which parts of the blank are forced by corresponding projections on the male die. The face m is interrupted also by grooves 0 arranged as shown by Figure 11. The die surface an may be inked before the embossing operation and becomes a printing surface adapted to apply a film of printing, ink of any'desired color to the flat surfaces of the blank surrounding the bosses 13, said film being interrupted by the grooves 0 so that theembossing operation is also a printin (7 operation. causing the lines k shown in black by Figure 4 to appear as lines of the color of the paper, as shown by Figure 13.
I have thus disclosed the female die to show the facility with which the blank may be marked by printing to guide a hand tool in subdividing the blank into corner members.
The embossed blanks may be supplied as articles of manufacture and sale for use by individuals desiring only to subdivide the blanks by hand tools into small numbers of sets of corner members.
It is obvious, however, that blanks chargular sheet having a gum coating on one side and including a plurality of spaced apart square bosses ofi'set from its opposite side and stiffened by said coating, said sheet being divisible intoa plurality of pocketed corner members by straight cuts extending between diagonally opposite corners of the bosses,
and other straight cuts extending between ad acent bosses, each of said members including an attaching flange and a triangular pocket constituting one-half of a boss, and having a free mouth-defining edge on its hypotenuse and a right angled bottom-defining neck joined to the flange, the pocket and flange being in parallel planes.
2. As an article of manufacture a rectangular sheet gummed on one side and including a plurality of spaced apart square bosses off set from its opposite side and stiffened by said coating, the edges of said bosses being parallel ,withthe edges of the sheet, said sheet being divisible into a plurality of pocketed and flanged corner members by straight cuts diagonal to the sheet and extending between diagonally opposite corners of the bosses. and other straight cuts extending parallel with edges of the sheet between adjacent bosses,,each-of said members including an angular attaching flange having a salient Outer edgeand a reentrant inner edge, and a triangular pocket constituting one-half of a boss and having a free mouth-defining edge on its hypotenuse and a right angled bottomclefining neck joined to the reentrant edge of the flange, the pocket and flange being in par allel planes;

As an article of manufacture a rectan= gular sheet having a gum coating on one side and including a plurality of spaced apart square bosses offset from its opposite side and stiflened by said coating, said sheet being divisible into a plurality of pocketed corner members by straight cuts extending between diagonally opposite corners of the bosses, and
other straight cuts extending between adjacent bosses, each of said members including an attaching flange and a triangular pocket constituting one-half of a boss, and
having a free mouth-defining edge on its hypotenuse and a right angled bottom-defining neck joined to the flange, the pocket and flange being in parallel planes, the sheet being provided with printed marks arranged to indicate the predetermined location of the several straight cuts.

The method of making pocketed corner members consisting in embossing a rectangular gummed sheet to form spaced apart square bosses offset from one side of the sheet, and subdividing the sheetrby straight cuts extending between diagonally opposite corners of the bosses, and other straight cuts extending between adjacent bosses, thereby forming a plurality of corner members, each including an attaching flange and a triangular pocket constituting one-half of a boss,
