Patented Apr. 5, 1932 UNrrno STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE I-I. DAWSON, OF CAIBRIDGrE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO WILSON-JONES COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, .A CORPORATION F MASSACHUSETTS COMPRESSOR :PLATE FOR CABINET DRAWERS Application filed April 16, 1930. Serial No. 444,653.
This invention relates to a compressor plate of that type designed for use in connection with a drawer for holding overlapping visible indexes, and it is an object of this invenn tion to provide a novel form of plate for retaining different kinds of labels or indicia.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out U3 and deiined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred form of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:
Figure l is an elevational view of a compressor plate embodying this invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevational View of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substan- 29 tially on the line III- III of Figure l.
In referring to the drawings, it will be noted that the compressor plate is mounted upon a hinge rod l which is adapted to be supported in the rear end of a cabinet drawer 2D containing visible indexes. A binding member 2 of suitable material preferably metal is folded over the rod l, and a cardboard member 3 flanked on each side by a Celluloid or transparent sheet et is fastened between the lips of the binding member 2 by means of rivets or the like. The Celluloid sheets t which flank the cardboard 3 are integral with a tubular portion 2 at the lower end thereof, which is designed for holding a label or the like. In the manufacture, the Celluloid sheet is preferably formed with a cylindrical portion at its medial line and with the two sheets 4. The same may then be readily slipped over the central cardboard 3. The cardboard is shown as cut away upon each side, as indicated at 6, to provide pockets for the insertion of records or address slips or the like.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that a novel form of compressorrplate for visible index cabinets has been provided and which is so constructed that identifying data or information may be readily retained thereon. Further, the device is very simple and can be readily manufactured at very little expense.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wid-e range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
l. In a compressor plate, a hinge rod, a binding member secured to said rod, a central member, a Celluloid sheath enclosing said central member and having a tubular portion at its low-er end, and means for securing said central member and celluloid sheath to said binding member.
2. In a compressor plate, ahinge rod, a metal strip folded over said rod, a central member having cut-out portions, a Celluloid sheath folded over said central member and having a tubular lower portion, and means for securing said central member and sheath to said metal strip.
8. In a compressor plate, a supporting member, a transparent sheath secured to said supporting member, and a reinforcing member having cut-out portions forming pockets located in said sheath and secured to said supporting member.
4L. In a Compressor plate, a hinge rod, a transparent sheath having a lower tubular portion, means for connecting said sheath to said hinge rod and a 1pocket-forming membei' carried by said sheath.
5. In a compressor plate, a hinge rod, a celluloid sheath, means connecting said sheath and rod and a member having pocket-form ing recesses located in said sheath.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name at Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
GEORGE H. DAIVSON.
