MARTIN OOROORAN, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR TO AARON PEISER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,215, datedDeceInber 12, 1876; application tiled August 4, 1876. V A
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN GoRcoEAN, a resident of the city of New Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Oil-Gans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in cans for the use of retail dealers in illuminating and other oils; and it provides a means for the return of all drippings from the pump or measures to the interior ot' the can, in which the oil is hermetically sealed, so as to eiectually prevent any evaporation of the same.
My invention will be readily understood by referring to the drawing, whereon Figure l is a top view or plan, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of my invention, a portion ofthe body of the can being broken away in order to show the essential features ofthe same.
`A is a cylindrical can, the top of which is covered with a circular plate, B, in the center of which is constructed a screw-socket, O, in which is held, in a perpendicular position, the pump D. In the front of this is a permanently-secured segmental sink, E, having an inclined bottom, provided with grooves a, for conveying the drippings from the pump or measures to the valve F, which, being raised by its handle G, permits the said drippings of oil wit-hin the vessel can be readily ascertained whenever desired.
The llin g ot' the can is accomplished through the above-mentioned orifice, or the oil can be pumped or poured into the sink E, and run into the can by raising the valve, before described. e
To the top of the can, immediately in rear of the pump-socket, is hinged a cover, I, which, when open, exposes all the essential features of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The oil-can herein described, the head of which is provided with an orifice, having a screw-cap, H, and with a permanently-secured sink, E, having an inclined bottom, provided with grooves a and valve F, the latter operated by its handle G, as described, and for the purpose specitied.
Witness my hand this 31st day of May, 1876.
MARTIN OORCORAN.
Witnesses H. N. JENKINS, T. J. ROAGII.
