Description

HENRY H. ROGERS.
Nozzle for`` Liquid Packages.
N O. H 8,15 4. Patented August 15, 1871.
f. F/MWA @Nt Q-LXQJ @A UivrTnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. ROGERS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES PRATT MANUFACTURING COMPANY,77 OF NEW YORK CITY.
IMPROVEMENT IN NOZZLES FOR LIQUID-PACKAGES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,154, dated August 15, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. ROGERS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improved Nozzle for Liquid-Packages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, an d exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a side elevation, partly broken away to show the interior arran gement ofthe dischargespout; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section ofthe nozzle, showing the top cut away and the spout arranged for the discharge of the liquid.
Similar letters of reference in the accompanying drawing indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved nozzle or top for liquid-packages; and to this end it consists in placing a spout within a recessed nozzle, which spout, when the seal ofthe nozzle is broken, forms a discharge-tube for the liquid. The nozzle is made complete for the market, with the top sealed and containing the spout. When applied to aca-n, therefore, the contents of the latter cannot be reached until the sea-l is cut or broken, and when this is done an etlicient discharge-spout is at hand.
In the accompanying drawing,A is the nozzle, adapted to be soldered or otherwise secured to a liquid-package. It is made cylindrical in form and provided with a closed top, B, ofthin or soft metal, which must be cut by some sharp instrument in the line ofthe shoulder C before the interior of the nozzle can be reached. D is the fixed section ofthe discharge-spout, placed within the nozzle in ,an inclined position, and iirmly secured to the bottom E around an opening therein, as shown in Fig. 2. F is the detachable section ofthe spout, which, when the nozzleis sealed, is held within the same, as shown in Fig. 1, and when the nozzle is unsealed is applied to the fixed section D to form a long` discharge-spout, as shown in Fig. 2.
By this construction a sealed safety-nozzle is formed which prevents the contents ofthe package from being tampered with during transportation, which forms a safe receptacle for the detachable section of the discharge-spout, and which, when cut open or unsealed,is adapted to form an efcient discharge-spout, by which lamps and other small vessels can be iilled with the utmost cleanliness. If desired, the detachable section of the spout may be dispensed with, as the inclination and length of the fixed section are so adjusted that even without the additional section the liquid can be discharged over the walls ofthe nozzle without comin g in contact therewith.
Havin g thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A nozzle or top for liquid-packages having within it a fixed discharge-spout, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
2. A nozzle or top for liquid-packages provided with an interior discharge-spout composed of xed and detachable sections, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
HENRY H. ROGERS.
