Description

March 29, 1932. J. w. CARTUSCHKA 1,851,750
WATERPROOF CASE Filed July 23, 1928 Patented Mar. 29, 1932 PATENT OFFICE J'ALEAN W. GARTUSGHKA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WATERPROOF CASE Application filed July 23,
This invention relates to waterproof cases adapted to be used by bathers to carry cigarettes, matches, change, cosmetics, and sundry other articles.
Bathers at the seashore and other places, often desire to smoke, or to apply cosmetics and other lotions to the skin, or desire to carry small change with them to purchase articles, but usually such articles are not available and they may not be carried in ordinary pockets because of the danger of getting them wet, or in the case of small change losing same.
It is an objectof this invention to provide a waterproof case which may be conveniently carried on the neck, arm, ankle, or on a belt around the waist of the bather.
A further object is to provide a waterproof case which is simple in manufacture yet attractive in appearance.
This and other objects are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, constituting a material part of this disclosure and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the waterproof case with a strap attached.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the waterproof case.
Figure 3 is a side view of the waterproof case.
Figure 3a is a plan View of the case.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of a modified form of the case.
Referring to the drawings, the waterproof case is shown to have a front face 5, and inclined sides 6, joined by an arcuate rear face 7 Integral with the side walls 6 are rings 8 to which may be attached a strap 9 and a buckle 10, or the buckle may be formed integral with the case as shown at 10 in Fig ure 360.
The front face 5 is provided with an aperture at one end surrounded by inturned flanges 11, integral with the face 5, and which are threaded to accommodate the threaded portion 12 of the cover 18. A rubber washer 14: is positioned between the cover 13 and the face 5 to provide a water tight connection.
1928. Serial No. 294,719.
In the modified form shown in Figure 4, the face 5 has an inturned ribbed flange 15 which cooperates with the ribbed portion 16 of the cover 17 the portion 16 being split at a number of places as shown at 16 to give resiliency. A rubber washer 18 is positioned between the cover 17 and the face 5, the washer having a thin inner edge 19 which fits partially between the portion 16 and the flange 15.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a waterproof case which is especially adapted for use by bathers at the seashore to protect cosmetics, matches, cigarettes, etc, from moisture and for carrying small change, if necessary, and that the case may be fastened around the waist, arm, or ankle depending uponthe desires of'the user.
The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously an embodiment may be construed including many modifications Without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A case comprising a hollow body having an arcuate rear face and a front face provided with an aperture at one end and a ribbed flange surrounding the aperture, a cover having a ribbed portion, said portion being split to render the same resilient and adapted to cooperate with said ribbed flange to close the aperture, and means connected with the said body by which a strap may be attached thereto.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JALEAN w. CARTUSCHKA.
