Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL B. MAYFIELD, OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COM PO UND TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,038, dated December 5; 1876; application filed April 29, 1876. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. MAYFIELD, of Huntsville, in the county of Walker and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Kitchen-Utensils; and
I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and fig ures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side elevation of my kitchen-utensil, and Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.
This invention has relation-to a combined tool adapted for lifting plates, and'also for mangling meat.
The nature of my invention consists in a serrated mangler formed on one end of a handle, which is constructed with plate-lifters and a pot-lifter, as will be understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawings, A designates the handle of the implement, on one end of which is formed a curved tongue, at, so constructed that it is adapted to lift stove-plates. 'B designates a mangler, which has a serrated surface, and which is formed on or attached to the handle A, as illustrated in Fig. -1. The
opposite end of the handle A is constructed with curved and tapered fingers b c, which are so formed and combined that they are useful for lifting plates. The finger b is constructed with a curved horn or hook, which is espe-- cially designed for lifting pots or kettles by their handles.
It will be observed from the above'descrip tion that I utilize the handle of the implement for lifting pots, kettles, and plates, as a-means for holding a device for mangling meat. It will also be seen that the mangler B and the curved tongue ob. serve to afford a firm. grasp in using the instrument in lifting pots.
