DENTAL FORCEPS.
Specification of Letters '.Patent.

Application filed December 3, 1910. Serial No. 595,397.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. HULL, a citizen o'f the United States of America, residing at Williamstown, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dental Forceps, of which the following is a specication.
vThis invention relates to forceps designed particularly for the extraction of the lower molar teeth, the object of the invention being to provide an improved form of jaw having its beak arranged at such angle with respect to the handle that very little resistance is oered in the extraction of the tooth, the angle of the beak also serving to cause the tooth to move in a direct perpendicular line so as to prevent the roots thereof from being forced against the roots of the posterior tooth. y
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view of the forceps. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof. Fig. 8 is a front view of the jaws. Fig. 4 is a side view of a portion of one of the jaws looking toward the gripping surface thereof.
My improved forceps comprises handles 1 which are identically constructed, as shown. The handles may be of any suitable well known configuration and construction which may be found best adapted for the purposes intended. The handles are formed integral with the jaws 2, and as illustrated, the jaws are pivoted and each is formed with a forwardly extending reduced portion 3 which terminates in a beak 4. The beak of each jaw extends inwardly substantially at an obtuse angle to the handle.
As hereinbefore stated, the object of the present forceps is to provide therein a form of jaw wherein in lowering the wrist to extract the tooth the particular angle of the beak of the jaw lessens the resistence and causes the tooth to move in a direct perpendicular line with the beak. This particular angle of the beak not only lessons the resistance in the extraction of the tooth but it prevents injury to the posterior tooth and its surrounding tissues. By providing means whereby the tooth can be lifted in a direct perpendicular line the roots are held against being forced against the roots ofthe posterior tooth.
I claim:
1. Dental forceps comprising pivotally mounted handles, and jaws extending from the handles and each formed with a beak which extends inwardly toward the handles.
2. Dental forceps comprising pivotally connected handles, each'formed with a jaw having a forwardly extending reduced portion terminating in a beak, the said beak being arranged at an angle with respect to the reduced portion of the jaw and being extended inwardly toward the handle.
