Patented Mar. 15, 1932 UNITED STATES MIGUEL ANGEL LAMoGLIA, or ernivruneos eman- PENcin Application filed May 3, 1930; serial: no. 4491 1}.
My present invention has reference to a combination article, and my object is the provision of a combined handle for safety razors, a compartment for the separated parts of the razor, a compartment for razor blades and a writing implement designed for use when the razor is not employed.
A further object is the provision of a combination article for this purpose which shall be of a simple construction, ornamental, small in size, successfully employed either as a handle for safety razors or as a writing implement and wherein novel feed means is provided for the lead or the pen point of the writing implement.
To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device when employed as a writing implement.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View therethrough.
Figure 3 is an elevation of the device employed as a holder for safety razor blades.-
Figure 4 is a sectional view approximately on the line 4.4 of Figure 1.
Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8 are transverse sectional views respectively on the lines 5-5, 66,
7-7, and 88 of Figure 2.
The improvement is preferably constructed of metal and is highly polished or may be otherwise ornamental. The improvement comprises a main and preferably rectangular hollow portion 1, a tubular portion 2 connected or formed with one end of the body 1, a hollow nose end 3 that has a slip joint and flexible connection with the ends of the part 2 and a nut 4 for closing the rounded outer end 5 of the body 1.
As disclosed by Figure 2 of the drawings the body 1 provides a compartment for a case containing safety razor blades 6, and the head guard and stem of a safety razor blade which rests on the case for the razor blade, the case resting directly on the division wall 7 between the body 1 and the tubular portion 2.
The nut 4 is round in plan and includes a central enlarged portion which is knurled, as at 8, while the ends or portions of the nut extending from the knurled center thereof are threaded so that eit'her' of the same may be-screwed inthewidened-and round nd "of thebody Qn the fa'c'eof one of the-thread ed 'portion's thereis formed an extension 9 that-has a threaded socket 10 designed to have screwed therein the shank 11 onthe head 12 of the safety razor: to compress against the head; the: guard 1:3 am!- likewise to hold the razorbl'adelbetween-the guard and 63' head. On the outerend of-the s condthreaded portion; of the nut t there is atabu-l ar ex tension 14 p ovided witha socket' for a-rub berer'a'ser 1'5. v i a V The tubular portion- '2 of theimprovement 6 h as3one= of its sides formed with a-l'ongitudi-- nally arranged slot or opening wand one of the sidewalls provided by this opening is formedwith a rack surface 17. Communieating with a central: opening the end of the" nose 3 and. extending inward there'of to Contact with the partition 7'there is e} guide tube '18 for a pencillead 19 or 'for'a pen point;- The tube 18 is provided on one of i ts' sid'es with alongitudinal sl'ot- 20', and in the'tubel t) 7 there is arranged and fri ctionally'received a' feeder tube 21. The lead 19or t'l 1'ep'en-point is received inthe feeder tube. The feeder tube at its upper end is provided with-an: arched spring handle 22 that has an outerhead23 and an innen1ug 24 which are; formed on the outwardly extending angle-end 25' of the said element 22. Theelement22 being of spring metal exertsa pressure toward the rack-surface 17 to bring the end 25, between the head 23- on the stop element 24; into the notches provided by the teetlr on -the said rack 17 and whereby, by merely swinging the spring member 22 from between certain of the teeth and permitting the same to engage between other teeth the pencil lead or other implement 19 may be moved into or outward of the nose and the tube or sleeve 18 therein.
When the device is employed as a pencil the razor is housed in the body 1 as disclosed by Figure 2 of the drawings but when the razor is desired for use the lead or like element 19 is drawn into the nose end of the handle and the nut 4 is unscrewed from the IUD body 1 to permit of the withdrawal of the razor and the blade. The nut is again then reversely screwed in the part 5 of the body 1 so that the shank 11 may be screwed into the threaded socket 10 and the razor thus held for convenient use.
The construction of the improvement and the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be understood and appreciated by thosevskilled in the art to which the invention relates so that further detailed description will not be required. Obviously I do not desire to be 7 restricted to the precise details herein set forth and, therefore, hold myself entitled to make such changes therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of what I claim.
Having described the invention, I claim: 7 1; An article for the purpose set forth comprising a handle, one end of the handle being provided with a tubular extension that merges into a nose end having a central opening, a longitudinally slotted'sleev-e mounted in the tubular extension with one .end in communication with the central opening in the nose, a split spring feeder tube frictionally received in the sleeve and designed to hold the lead, an arched spring arm on the tube-received through the slot of the sleeve, said tubular extension having a longitudinal slot therein, one of whose walls is. formed with a rack, and said arm having a straight arm to engage said rack.
2. An article for the purpose set forth comprising a handle, one end of the handle being provided with a tubular extension that merges into a nose end having a central opening, a longitudinally slotted sleeve mounted in the tubular extension with one end communicating with the central opening, a split spring feeder tube frictionally received in the tube and designed to hold the lead, an arched spring arm on the tube received through the slot of the sleeve, said tubular extension having a longitudinal slot therein one of whose walls is formedwith a rack, said arm having av straight end-to engage with said rack, a handle on the outer end of said extension of the arm, and a stop ele-' ment' on said extension inwardly. of the handle. o v 1 I t i In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
