IMPROVEMENT IN QUILTING-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,78l dated November 28, 1876; application filed :April 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA M. HOPE, of Morocco, in the county of Newton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Quilting-Frame, of which the following is a specification I The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in theclaim.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved quilt.
rollers .and the bars used in applying the quilt to the rollers.
A represents the rollers, B the benches for supporting them, and U the bars to be used in applying the quilt to the rollers preparatory to mounting it on the benches. The benches are entirely unconnected with each other except by the rollers when they are putin, and they have legs D, calculated to stand well without bracing, and they are provided with hooks E to hook into the two opposite edges of the quilt to stretch it properly as it shifts along from one roller to the other.
To put on the quilt, to begin with, the rollers are laid on the floor, and the bars G are pinned onto them at the ends, as shown in Fig. 2 is atransverse section taken online 00 at, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the Fig. 3. The quilt is then stretched from one to the other, andsewed onto the muslin strip F attached to them, and the edges along the bars are connected to them to stretch the quilt by cords wound around the bars. one roller is unfastened and rolled along the quilt to wind it on, the bars 0 being, meantime, fastened, so that the stretch in the quilt will not be relaxed. As the quilt is wound on,
IRA M. HOPE.
