WATER SOFTENER Filed March 13 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 I] III III II If Inventor Fred R flupzezz A Home y Patented Feb. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I'D-RD R. EUBBELL OI' DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGN'OR TO JOBEYE W; SHAH-TB, OI DAYTON, OHIO WATER mm Application fled larch 18, 1981. Serial Io. 522,496.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in water softeners and purifiers and has for its object to provide a structure which is exceedingly simple, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use and operation, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is desi ed.
ith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides'in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough.
Figure 3 is a transverse section therevthrough taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an end elevation of the device.
Figure 5 is another end elevation thereof taken opposite to that shown in Figure 4, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the inside electrode.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numeral 5 denotes a handle which may be constructed of suitable material such as wood, hard rubber and the like and is formed with a longitudinally extending bore 6 and has formed or fixed on one end a plate 7 of similar material which has a central opening registering with the bore 6.
This plate 7 is formed with an annular flange 8 having on its inner edge an annular groove 9 in which the outer edge of a disk 10 is seated and held in place by means of screws 11.
A cylinder 12 has one end fitted snugly in a depending annular skirt 14 on the disk 10. This sleeve 12 is preferably constructed of aluminum or other suitable material and forms an outside electrode being connected with one wire 15 extending through the bore 6 by means of a screw 16 which engages the wire with the disk 10.
Numeral 17 denotes an inside electrode preferably constructed of steel and a threaded stud 18 at one end of this electrode 17 extends through an opening in the center of the disk 10 being insulated therefrom by washers 19 and 20 and being securely held in place by a nut 21 Another wire 22 is engaged with the stud 17 by said nut 21. These wires 15 and 22, of course, are to be connected with any suitable source of electrical en- 50 inl'igy such as an electric light socket or the The central or inside electrode 17 terminates just short of the bottom edge of the sleeve or outside electrode 12.
It is thought that the construction, utility, and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this at without a more detail description there- 0 The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above de- 7 scription.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to withoutdeparting from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A device of the class described including a handle with a longitudinally extending bore and having a plate on one end thereof, an opening registering with the bore, said plate being formed with an annular flange having a groove formed in the inner edge thereof, a disk having its outer edge sented in the groove screws extending through the plate threededly eneged in the disk, a sleeve attached to the and forming an outside 5 electrode, on inside electrode having a stud extending through an opening in the disk and being disposed within the outside electrode, means insulating the inside electrode from the disk, wires extending through the 30 handle one of which is attached to the stud and:I the other of which is attached to the H5 In testimony whereof I effix my signature.
