The present invent-ion relates to'an electric connecter for holding together two electric cords, so that one may be rotated in relation to the other.
l The device prevents the electric cord from becoming twisted,.when used with various devices, such as electric irons.
Another very im ortant object of the invention is to provi e a connecter of this nature, formed in two sections, joined together, so that one may rotate in relation to the other, each section being provided with means for engaging the wires of an electric cord, and said means being always in elec- 16 trical connection with each other.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature, .which 'is exceedingl simple in construction, eiicient and reliab e in use, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, not likely to become out of order, and otherwise well adapted to the urpose for which it is designed.
ith the above and numerous other objects in view, las will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain nove features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of arts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. i

4o Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 5 designates a block of vinsulating material, and 6 another block of insulating material. The block 5 is rovided with a reduced externally threaded) extension 7 on one face thereof, and an annular flange 8 on the other face thereof. The block 6 is rovided with a reduced extension 9 on one ace thereof, over which is ada ted to-extend the flange 8 and a reduce externally threaded extension. 10 on the other face thereof. Internally threaded caps 11 of in- 'sulating material are adapted to be received on the extensions 7 and 10, as is shown in Figure 1, and are provided with the central .Openings 12, through-which the cords may be passed.` The block-5 is provided with a central bore 13, laligning with the openings y 12. A U-shaped conductor plate 14 is disposed in the bore 13 and the intermediate portion thereof is apertured for receiving a bolt 15, which extends through the bore 16 provided centrall through the block 6. The upper ends of t e U-shaped conductor 14 are provided with offset extensions 16, fixed to the face of the block 5, by screws 1-7. The other face ofthe block 5 has mounted thereon a pair of conducting brushes ,18,l held in place by screws 19. An o ening 2O extendsI through the block 5, paral el to the bore 1 One conductor of the electric cord is engaged with the head of the bolt 15, or preferably with one of the screws 17. Preferably that screw 17 which is disposed farther from the opening 20. The other conductor of the electric cord is passed through the opening 20 and attached to the adjacent screw 19.
A ring conductor 21 is mounted on the inner face of the block 6, being held in place by screws 22. A washer 23 is embedded in the inner face of the block 6 and surrounds the bore 16. A coil spring 24 is disposed about the bolt 15, and impinges against the washer 23, and the intermediate portion of thevU-shaped conductor plate 14. A pair of nuts 25 are threaded on the bolt for engaging the outer face of the block 6, so as to hold the blocks 5- and 6 assembled, `as indicated in Fi ure'l, and placing the desired tension on t e spring 24. An o ening 26 is provided in the block 6, exten ing parallel to the bore -16. One conductor of the other electric cord is attached to the bolt 15, being held in place by nutsv 25, while the other conductor is passed through the :opening 26 and engaged with one of the screws 22. The brushes 18 are adapted to wipe over the ring 21,as one block is rotated with respect tothe other. Thus, the complete connection is always maintained between the two electric cords, so that they ma be rotated withrespect to eachcther an revented from becoming twisted.
It 1s thou ht that the construction, operation, and advantages of this invention will now be clearly understood, without a more detailed description thereof. It is desired, however, to rpoint out that'various changes in the details of construction, in the combination, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention( as hereinafter claimed, or saerificin any of its advantages.
Having thus descri ed my invention, what I claim as new is: P
A device of the class described including a pair of blocks of non-conductingvmaterial, one of said blocks provided with a centrally located b0re,an annular flange on one face, and areduced externally threaded extension on the other face, a U-shaped conductor in the bore having its ends offset, screws extending through the offset ends into the said block. the intermediate portion of the conductor being apertured, a pair ofbruslies disposed on the face of the said block, the other block provided with a centrally disposed bore, a reduced extension on its inner face, and a reduced threaded extension on its outer face, a ring disposed on the inner face of the last mentioned block, screws for holding said ring in place, a washer disposed on the inner face of said last mentioned block, said brushes adapted to wipe over said ring, a bolt extending lthrough t e aperture of the U-shaped conductor, throu h; the bore of the second block, means or holding the bolt in place, a spring disposed between the Washer and the intermediate portion of the U-shaped conductor and tensioned by said bolt, both of said blocks being provided With off-center openings, and a pair of caps threadedly engageable with the reduced extensions of the blocks.
