In
5 the invention. 1
The operation of this form of the invention substantially the same as that form illustrated in Figure l. V
The coil illustrated in Figure 4 is slightly. different in construction in that the core member I5 is held between the end members 55 and 5| of the shield 52. For this purpose the end walls 50 and 5| are provided with depressed portions 53 in which channels 55 for the reception of the cylindrical members 55 are formed. The shield 52 in this form of the invention is substantially.
the same as that heretofore described except as for its end walls. In this form of the invention, however, there is no tuning means provided.-
In this last described form of the invention the several leads for the coils have been illustrated as extending through openings 55 in the side wall of the shield and it is to be understood, thatalthough this construction is not illustrated in each of the forms of the invention, this construction may be employed in connection with each of the coils herein illustrated. The reference numeral 51 designates a strip of insulating material suitably secured to the interior of. the shield 52 and serves to prevent electrical contact between the leads of the shield;
In that form of the invention illustrated in Figm'e 5 of the drawings the shield is designated 50 and has a depressed portion 5| in its top wall which is considerably deeper thanthe depressed portion in the other forms previously described. The core member 52 is secured to the bottom wall of this depressed portion 5| by a spool like member 53 upon which a coil 55 is wound, the bottom wall of the depressed portion 5| being clamped between the spool like member 53 and the core 52 by means of a nut 55 threaded upon the end 55 of a bolt 51 which passes through the core member 52, the bottom wall of the depressed portion 5| and the spool member 53. In this form of the invention the cylindrical members'are designated 58 and each has an end wall 59 through which the bolt passes, the cylindrical members being separated by a suitable. .insulatinglelement 59'. In this form of the invention the coils are wound upon the core member 52 and the cylindrical members 58, the leads extending through openings in the casing as heretofore described but not shown in this figure. In this last described form of the invention the core member, cylindrical members and the coils carried thereby are held suspended from the bottom wall of the depressed portion 5| and within the shield 50.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figure 6, the core member. 10 is provided with a' shoulder 1| upon which the cylindrical member 12 is mounted, the shield 13 being mounted upon a shoulder 14 of the coremember. has a depressed-portion 15 which has a key way slot to receive the head 15 of the core member 10 and a manipulating handle I1 is secured to The shield the head member I5 of the core 10. In this form one end of the core member 10 forms the closure for one end of the shield 13. Upon this end of the core member 10 there is a plate 18 which carries a plurality of prongs 19 which form the terminals for the leads from the coils l8 and 19' formed respectively on the core 10 and the cylindrical member 12.
The form of the invention illustrated in Figure 7 is substantially the same as that illustrated in Figure 6 except that there are a plurality of cylindrical members and 9|, the base of the core 10 being formed with a plurality of shoulders 82 and 83 upon which the cylindrical members 80 and 8| are respectively mounted. Prongs 19 form the terminals of the coil leads in this form of the invention.
In Figure 8 I have shown three coil units mounted in a single shield. The shield comprises three sections 98, 9| and 92. The shields 95 and 92 each have a closed end 93 and an open end 94. The coils are formed. upon cylindrical members 95 of which there may be any desired number, which are supported as heretofore described. The shield 9| has two open ends and the open ends of the shields and 92 are adaptedto be positioned in end,to end relation with the open ends of the shield 9|. Partition plates are employed to close both the open end of the shields 90 and 92 and both open ends of the shield 9|.
The coilmounted within the shield 90 is suspended from the upper wall 93 thereof by a bolt 91. The coil mounted within the shield 92 is supported from the closed bottom thereof by means of a bolt 98 and the coil mounted within the shield 9| is clamped between the partition plates 95 by a bolt 99. By this construction it is apparent that the several coils are shielded from outside interference and from each other, and it is to be understood that the leads from these several coils will extend through the shields preferably in the same manner as illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention provides new and novel coil structures in which a plurality of coils may be carried by-a single support and by which an effective shielding of the several coils is had.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and 'what it is desired to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A coil structure comprising in combination, a core of non-conducting material, a plurality of spaced cylindrical members carried by said core, a coil formed on said core, a coil on each of said cylindrical members, a shield completely enclosing said core and said cylindrical members, said shield having a depressed recess in one of its end walls, the bottom wall of said recess having an opening therein, and means carried by the core and adapted for reception in the opening in the bottom wall of the depressed recess for securing the core and the shield together.
