4 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in switch clips.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved switch clip.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a switch clip which may be assembled from parts which may be formed in a punch press and yet provide good electrical contact between the parts of the switch clip.
Further objects and advantages of the clip will become apparent from the following detailed description and from the accompanying drawings.
Referring now to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top view of the switch clip of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same switch clip.
Figure 3 is a view taken along line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a top view of one of the pressure members of the clip device.
Figure 5 is a side View of the member shown in Fig. 4.
Figure 6 is an end view of the member shown in Fig. 4.
Figure 7 is a top view of the other pressure member.
Figure 8 is a side view of the member shown in Fig. '7.
Figure 9 is an end view of the member shown in Fig. 7. i
Referring now to the drawings, 38 is a base member of insulating material. The switch clip of the invention is composed of two co-operating upright clip members t6 and 48 and a flat bar 6U. The co-operating clip members are shown separated in Figures 4-9 inclusive. Each of these members has a contact portion 59, a base portion 51 and a tongue or extension 52 or 53. The contact portion 50 is of the usual shape and may be provided with slots as shown to provide a more uniform contact pressure. This contact portion is formed substantially at right angles to the base portion 51. The base portions may be provided as shown with openings 56 for rivets and openings 58 which may be threaded. The member 48 is provided with a tongue or extension portion 53, while the member 46 is provided with a tongue or extension portion 52. On the member d8 this portion is in the same plane as the base portion while in the member this portion is offset to a plane above the base portion. This olset makes it possible for one of the tongue portions to overlap the other one when the clip is assembled as shown in Figure 2. The two tongues are in good electrical contact.
A flat bar 6|] is provided beneath the members 46 and 48. Two spring steel compression clips 62 may be provided to maintain adequate contact pressure between the pressure members and the switch blade (not shown) which usually engages the clip. The spring steel clips are secured in position by a rivet 66 passing through an opening 65 in the clip members and secured therein by an open sided washer 66 which may be slipped between one end of the rivet and one side of the spring clip. Rivets 'I0 secure each of the two clip parts to the base member as do the screws 12.
The line or load connection may comprise a bolt 14 to which a suitable lug or other form of electrical connection may be applied.
It should be noted that each pressure member is an integral part of the extension or tongue to which electrical connection is made. Perfect electrical connection through the clip is therefore assured. This is particularly advantageous in large capacity clips. It can be seen that the parts of the switch clip may be formed in a punch press and are therefore capable of being produced economically.
I claim:
1. A switch clip comprising, a base member of insulating material, a pair of co-operating clip members and a at bar, each of said clip members having a contact portion, a base portion and a tongue, the plane of the base portion being at right angles to the plane of the contact portion, the tongue of one of the clip members extending away from the base portion and in the same plane, the tongue of the other clip member being ofiset above the plane of the base portion to overlap the tongue of theother clip member and make contact therewith, a flat bar beneath the base portions of the clip members both oi said clip members being secured at the base portion to the base member, and a wire fastening means extending through the tongues of the clip members and the flat bar.
2. A switch blade clip assembly comprising a pair of co-operating clip members and a base member of insulating material, each of said clip members having a contact portion, a base portion and a tongue, the plane of the base portion being at right angles to the plane of the contact portion, the tongue of one of the clip members extending away from the base portion and in the same plane, the tongue ofthe other clip member being parallel to and olset above the plane of the base portion of that clip member, said offset tongue overlapping in contact the tongue of the rst named clip member.
3. A clip assembly for an electrical connection comprising a base member of insulating material, a pair of co-operating clip members, each of said clip members having an upright contact portion, a base portion formed integral therewith with its plane at right angles to the plane of the Contact portion and coextensive therewith and a tongue, the tongue of one of the clip members being in the same plane as the base portion, the tongue of the other clip member being offset from but4 parallel to the base portion of its clip member and overlapping in contact the tongue Vof the first clipl member, and a Wire fastening means electrically secured to said tongues.
4. An electric clip assembly' comprising' a base member of insulating material and a pair of cooperating clip members, each of said clipmembers having an upright contact portion, a base portion and a tongue extension, said base portion being formed integral with the upright. contact portion and extending. with itsplane at right angles to the plane of the Contact portion, the tongue extensions having larger areas than the base, said contact members being secured to the base member of insulating material at the base portions of the clip members, the plane of one of the tongues being in the same plane as the base portion of its clip, the plane of the other tongue being offset from but in a plane parallel to the plane of the base portion of its clip, to overlap in contact the other, and a wire terminal electrically secured to said tongues.
