REFRESHMENT STAND Filed Feb. 28, 1951 UIN Patented Feb. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES PATElNroFFlcE Wyman muxas, ornmrvnanowaanc t y i i i i nnrnEsHMENr i Application led February 28, 1931. Ensrial` Re; jplwl'lh. i
rlhis invention relates to a refreshment stand and has for its principal object the provision of a refreshment stand above which will be a constantly rotating top carrying sign 5 boards for the display of advertisements.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the rotating top that it will form a component part of the stand; and so that it will be substantial and rigid to withstand wind and weather conditions; rain proof, and so that it can be easilyT rotated so as to require but a minimum of power.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the stand that the operating mechanism will be above the used or dispensing portion thereof so that it will not obstruct the operators nor occupy valuable floor space.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention which is designed for simplicity, economy, and eiiiciency. These will become more apparent from. the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawings and throughout the descrip tion.
mechanism.
The machine chamber is covered at its top by means of a rotating cap 13 so that the entire stand presents the appearance of a lighthouse.
A pair of signboards 14 project outwardly from each side of the cap 10 to carry suitable advertising.
These signboards are rigidly mOanl'ed the .ftlaatthey rotate there- With and are formed to simulate light beams projecting from the cap. If desired, they may be outlined by means of neon tubes 15.
The cap 13 is carried on a vertical centra-l shaft 16 which extends through thrust bear'- ings 17 supported in the machine chamber 12. The cap is rigidly supported from the shaft 16 by means of a suitable frame 18. The shaft y 16 is rotated by means of a motor 20 acting through any suitable speed reducing mechanism 21 and a flexible coupling 22.
The top of the machine chamber 12 termiu ates in an annular ceiling ring 19 which eX- tends upwardly Within the bottom of the skirt $5 of the cap 13 so as to prevent rain and mois ture from entering the structure at this point.
The faces of the signboards 14 are illuminated by means of iioodlights 23 carriedon brackets 24 from the central shaft 16. These floodlights shine through windows 25 in the cap 15 directly upon the faces of the signboards 14.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what 3 is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is `l. A refreshment stand comprising: a dispensing compartment; a machine compartu ment arranged above said dispensing compartment; a vertical shaft extending upwardly from said machine compartment; a rotatable `cap for said machine compartment supported by said shaft; means for rotating no said shaft; and an annular ring surroundin the top of said machine compartment `an extending within said cap `so as to prevent moisture from entering the former.
2. A refreshment stand comprising: a dispensing compartment; a. machine compartment arranged above said dispensing compartment; a rotatable cap above said ma chine compartment; means Within said machine compartment for rotating said cap;
and signboards projecting from said cap and adapted to rotate therewith.
3. A refreshment stand comprising: a dispensing compartment; a machine compartment arranged above said dispensing compartment a rotatable cap above said machine compartment meansy withinrsaid machine compartment for rotating said cap; signboards projecting from said cap and adapted A to rotate therewith; windows in said, cappxv and iloodlights adapted A' to illuminate said signboards, said loodlights beingY carried n.
within said cap and adapted to pro]ect'1ight beams through said windowsf- ,v l
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature.
WATHEN JAMES.
