UNITED STATES LMSAM FITZHUGH L. OVER/TON, OCH SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA.
REVOLUBLE SIGN.
Application filed May 6, 1924.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FITZHUGI-I L. OVER- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shreveport, in the parish of Gaddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Revoluble Sign, of which the following is a specincation.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a revoluble sign.
One object of the invention is to provide an electrically lighted sign, specially designed for advertising purposes, and which is revoluble.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sign of the character described which is of very simple construction and easily opperated, and which is of an attractive appearance.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of the device, partly in section.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the upper end thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 4: is a transverse sectional view on the line i l of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 1; and,
Figure 6 shows a wiring diagram.
Tn the drawings the numeral 1 designates the base, having a surrounding housing 2, and fixed to which there is an upstanding rod or tubing 3. The base has an annular raceway 4t in which the bearings 5 are located and mounted on these bearings there is a rotatable disc 6 to which the lower end of the outer tubing 7 is secured This tubing extends up through the housing around the rod 3, and fixed on its lower end is a screw gear 8 in mesh with the worm 9 on the shaft of the electric motor 10. This motor and gearing are enclosed within the housin 2.
Tn-corporated in the tubing 7 there is a four way T-connection 11 to which the four Serial No. 711,510.
radiating tubular arms 12 are attached. These arms are braced by means of chains, as 13, which are attached at their upper ends to the top of the tubing 7, and at their other ends to the respective arms 12,
Suspended from these arms are the panel 14, with a row of electric lights; as 15, along their upper margin. The upper end of the structure has a transparent globe 16 enclosing an electric light 18. The electric lights are wired in the electrical circuit 19, which is equipped with an automatic circuit closer and breaker consisting of the contact tongue 20, which rides on the disc 6, and this disc has the marginal insulated contact points 21, spaced apart and connected into said circuit.
The device is rotated, through the motor 10, in an obvious manner so as to successively present the panels 1 1 to view and as rotated the circuit, through the lights, is alternately completed and broken.
The upper end of the tubing 7 has a hearing 22 to receive the upper end of the inner rod 3, and by means of which the device is held steady and caused to maintain a true vertical axis of rotation.
What I claim is A revoluble sign including a base, an inside anchor rod secured to and ug standing from the base, a disc like table mounted to rotate on the base, and he ing spaced electrical contact points, a tubing supported by said table and surrounding said anchor ro l. a motor geared to said tubing and adapted to rotate the same, a beari inside the up-- per end of the tubing and working around the upper end of said anchor rod, radiating arms carried by the tubing, panels supported by and depending from said arms, electric lights carried by the panels and connected into an electrical circuit, and a fixed tongue in said circuit with which said points contact successively whereby the circuit is alternately completed and broken as said table rotates.
Tn testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FITZHUGH L. OVERTQN.
