UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ANDREW J. EINNEGAN, 0E MINNEAPOLIS,v MINNESOTA.
'Y IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-PACKAGES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,605, dated November 21, 1876; application filed April 7, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. FINNEGAN, of Minneapolis, iu the county of Hennepin, and in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and uset'ulrlmprovements in Butter- Packages; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, aud exact description thereot', reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, making a part ot' this specitication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a butterpackage, and the cover for the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing', which represents vertical section of my invention.
A represents a cylindrical package, of any suitable dimensions, and made of any matev rial suitable for the purpose. B is the regular bottom of said package, under which is an auxiliary bottom,-O, this latter bottom extending beyond the sides of the package for asuitable distance, and around the outer edge of said auxiliary bottom is secured an inclined flange, D, extending in ward to the sides ofthe rlhis liange protects and strengtheus the bottom of the package, and prevents the package from being knocked over by any accident on a railroadtrain or otherwise. The
l upper end of the package A is formed with age. The edges of the lower disk G are made curved, as shown, and over the same is placed a rubber, H. This rubber is made in annular form, with a rib, e, around the interior edge, and a rib, d, around the outer edge. The inner rib e tits in, and is held by, a groove formed in the adjoining surfaces of the two wooden disks E and G, while the outer rib d ts over the bead b on the body ot' package, making the same perfectlyair-tight. under side of'the cover thus formed is a metal plate, I, and the parts are fastened together by screws or nails a: fr, as shown.
With this construction of the packages they can be piled ou top ot' each other Without injuring the rubber in any way.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The annular rubber H, formed with interior and exterior ribs e d, in combination with the grooved cover E G, and package A, having bead b, substantially as and' for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination, with a butter-package,
A, having bead b, ofthe wooden grooved disks E G, the rubber H, with ribs e d, and the metl al plate I, snbstainially as herein set forth.
3. A butter-package, A, with bottom B, auxiliary bottoni C, and inclined iiange l), substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of March, 187 6'.
ANDREW J. FINNEGAN.
