Description

"ileq Jan. 23, 195o 2 sheets-sheet 1 INVENTOR ATTORNEY ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS Filed Jant 23, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 agg /Va ffy /Qfawmers INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 9, 1932 UNITED STATES MARY A. SAUNIDERS, F LISBON; 01H0 ATTACHMENT ron arms Application led January 28, 1930. Serial No. 422,881.
This invention relates to an attachment for a bed, the general object of the invention being to p-rovide means whereby a receptacle can be placed under a person lying in the bed, so that it is unnecessary for the person to get out of the bed or for the person to use a bed pan. Y
Another object of the invention is to provide a mattress and springs having removable sections, with a support for the receptacle hingedly and slidably connected with the bed, so that the receptacle can be readily placed in position and removed after use.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangementr of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a plan view of `a bed, showing the invention in use, with the parts pulled out, so that the receptacle can be removed.
Figure 2 is a side view of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing the parts in operative position.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Figure 8.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view through the bed with the mattress and springs removed and showing the supporting means for the receptacle in operative position.
Figure 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a detail view showing how the yoke member is pivoted to the sliding frame.
Figure 8 is a view of one of the rack memi bers for holding the yoke member in adjusted position.
In these views, the letter A indicates the bed and B the springs and mattress. The springs and mattress are formed with removable intermediate sections B and a transverse frame l is slidably supported by the transverse guideways 2 attached to the bed under the removable sections B.
One
end of this frame is provided with a handle 3 so that the frame can be pulled outwardly or shoved inwardly, as desired.
A yoke-shaped member 4 has the extremities of its limbs pivoted to the rear part of the frame l, as shown at 5, so that the frame 4 can be swung downwardly or upwardly, the bight portion of the frame being bent upwardly, as shown at 6, to form a handle for manipulating the frame. A pair of depending rack bars 7 is carried by the frame l and act as holding means for the frame 4 to hold the same in adjusted position'. A ring 7 is attached to the uprights 8 which are supported from the frame 4, and this ring is adapted to support a receptacle 9 which may be provided with a handle 10.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when the person in the bed wishesto use the receptacle, it is simply necessary to remove the sections B and place the receptacle in the ring 7, while the parts are in the position shown in Figure 1. The frame l is then pushed inwardly and the frame4 raised so that the receptacle passes into the space formed by the removal of the sections B', which will place the receptacle immediately under the person lying in the bed. After the receptacle has been used, the frame 4 is lowered and the frame `l pulled outwardly so that the receptacle can be removed. Of course, the sections B must be replaced after the receptacle has been used.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made inthe construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is In combination with a bed having its springs and mattress provided with removable sections, a transversely arranged slidable frame supported by the bed under the removable sections, a yoke-shaped frame having the extremities of its limbs pivoted to the rear end of the sliding frame, the other end of the yoke-shaped frame being bent upwardly to form a handle, uprights connected with the limbs of the yoke-shaped frame intermediate their ends, a receptacle supporting ring connected with the upper ends of the uprights kand a pair of depending members carried by the sliding frame and arranged one on each side of the yoke-shaped frame and having their teeth adapted to engage portions of the yoke-shaped frame to hold the same in ad- ]usted position.
In testimony whereof I afx my signnture.
Mns. MARY A. SAUNDERS.
