The present invention relates to fuel atomizers for internal combustion motors of the type which are driven with liquid fuel injected in a liquid state intq the combustion 6 chamber. In motors of this type, the fuel is fre uently injected immediately before the com ustion is to take place. Consequently,
it must be introduced in such a manner that mixing with the coqnpressed air is efi'ectedas 10 quickly and effectively as ossible The greatest mixing eflicienc is o tained in such cases when the fuel is in ected through a plurality. of comparatively small nozzle openings. The mixing efiiciency is then further increased bymaking the relation between'the circumference and the cross-sectional area of these nozzle openings as great as possible, the contacting surface between the fuel'jets and the compressed air being increased thereby. The present invention has for itsobject to facilitate provision of the desired number of nozzle openings of any desired cross-sectional shapes.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a fuelnozzle according to the invention. Fig.
1 is a longitudinal section of part of the cylinder of an oil motor having such a nozzle. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment, partly in section, of the atomizer nozzle on an enlarged scale.
In Fig. 1, A represents the motor cylinder and B the combustion chamber having inserted therein the nozzle a, to which fuel is supplied through the pipe C. The fuel nozzle a 1s provided at the bottom with a centrally arranged, outwardly. flared conical opening. Fitted into this opening is a sleeve f which externally fits accurately to the conical opening, and the inner surface-of which is also conical, although with a smaller cone angle than the outer surface. A stud b is fitted accuratel into the sleeve 7. The sleeve f as well as t e stud b fitted into the same are provided on their external conical surfaces '45 with a number of grooves e, e, respectively,
against the bottom of the nozzle and thus keeping the stud b-ahd the sleeve 7 in their positions in the conical nozzle opening. The nut d is provided at the bottom with grooves g intended to admit the fuel to the grooves e and e. The number of grooves ma be further increased by the arrangemento two or more sleeves between the body of the nozzle and the stud b, and these sleeves are all formed 0 analogously to the sleeve f and, like the latter, they are all provided externally with grooves to increase the number of fuel jets in the combustion chamber. i
The cone angle for the outermost cone may 05 evidently be increased indefinitely up to 180 or more, in which case the jets emanating from the same are all situated in one plane, or, form a cone directed toward the nozzle.

A fuel' atomizing device for internal combustion engines comprising a hollow nozzle inclusive of an end wall having an outso wardly flared conical opening formed therethrough, a conical sleeve fitting said opening,-said sleeve having an outwardly flared conical opening formed therethrou h of a smaller 'cone angle than the cone ang e of the as opening in said-nozzle, a conical stud fitting the conical opening in said sleeve, one of the pair of abuttlng faces between said nozzle and said sleeve andone of the pairof abutting faces between said sleeve and said stud having fuel 00 channels formed therein, a threaded member on said conical stud extending into said nozzle, a nut separate from said nozzle threaded on said member. against the inner face of the end wall of the nozzle to holdsaid stud and said sleeve in assembly with the nozzle, said nut having slots for the passage. of fuel from the interior of the nozzle to i said channels, and'ineans for the admission of fuel to the interior of said nozzle.
