Original application rum January 20,1925, Serial m. 4,884. minded and this 31, 1927.. Serial No. 280,087.
Our invention relates to scales and more particularly to constructions designed for an enameled finish.
This application is a division of our copending application Serial No. 4,834 filed January26, 1925. j a
In the present state of the art of'scale construction it is usual to secure associated parts to each other by theme of screws orbolts. Where, however, the parts of the scale I are given a vitreous enamel finish the localized stresses produced by such screws or bolts frequently cause achipping of the enamel and consequent marring of the finish. To avoid. such defect, we have designed a construction dispensing with such securing means and sub stituted' therefor yieldable clips which may be readily engaged or disengaged without in-' jury to the finish. These clips vary in construction according'to. the particular design of scale or the parts thereof which are re movably secured but in each modification a resilient yieldable element is used in place of the screws or other fastening devices heretofore used. i I
- In the drawings- Figure .1 is a side elevation of a scale embodying our invention. r j
Figure 2is a sectional plan view showing the platform and means for securing the same to the platform securing frame. 7
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken substan tiallyon the plane indicated by line 3-.-3 in Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken substantially on the plane indicated by line 4-41 in Figure 2. j
In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate like parts and by particular reference to' Fig'ure 1 it will be noted that there is illustrated a scale of the cylinder type comprising a platform frame A anda pedestal including the lower reduced portion B. and the upper cylindrical portion C.
By particular reference to Figures2 to 4 I application filed October inclusive it will be noted that there is illustrated'a scale platform R in engagement with the platform supporting frame S. These parts aresecured to each other by providing radially slotted lu'gs W on said frame. The
posts or pins W have sleeved thereon the springs which bear at one end on a clampmg plate W, and at their opposite ends against a nutW. This bar V is of such extent that the opposite ends thereof may be engaged in the-channeled flange U of the plat-,
. into engagement with the lugs T.- This will securely attach. the platform R to the frame S without the use of bolts, screws, or other equivalent fastening means.
By reason ofthe above construction the platform R may be secured to the platform S by yieldable resilient means'which will not in any way injure the enameled finish.
It will be obvious that various changes in the specific details illustrated may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention and to this end reservation is made to-make such changes as may comewith n the purview of the accompanyin}; claims.
- What we claim as our invention is 1." In a scale, the combination with a platform supporting frame, of an enameledplat- I form for resting upon said frame and a resilient clip for securing said platform to said frame without pressure against the enameled surface.
2. In a scale, the combination with a platform supporting frame, of a platform provided with a depending channeled flange, radially projecting lugs on said frame-for engaging said. channel on one side of the platform and a resilient bearing for engaging the channel on the opposite side of the platform permitting asnap engagement between said a platform and frame.
3. In scale, the combination with a plat-- form supporting frame, of a platform pr0- 'vided with a channeled flange, and lugs and resilient means carried by said frame and en- 19 gaging said channeled flange for cletaehably securing said platform to said frame.
In testimony whereof We a'lfix our signatnres. H WVALTER F. STIMPSON. WVILLIS E. F INCH.
