After the door-is shut, it is held closed by This invention aims to provide novel means for heating a bed, and to supply novel means for heating the feet of a person in bed. Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for preventing the heater from tipping over under the thrust of the feet of the person in bed and using the heater. Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for supplying heat to the article.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that sort to which the present invention appertains.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes may be made in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 2; V
Figure 5 is a rear elevation;
Figure 6 is a section like Figure 2, but disclosing a modification.
In the form shown in Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, there is provided'a box-like body 1, which, preferably, is of rectangular form, saving for the fact that the body has a sloping front 2. The sloping front 2 is provided in order to accommodate the feet of the operator better. The body 1 is made of metal. It has a pivot v ally mounted bail 3, by which it can be carried about. The bail 3is preferably mounted on the ends of the body 1, pivotally and swings downwardly across a door 4 that is hing-ed at 5 to the back ofthe body 1, to aid in closing the door and in holding the door closed.
a latch 6'of any desired construction.
On its inner surface the 'door 4 has a sup- PA E T 0 m,
The operator simply places an electric lamp 8 or other heater in the clamp 7, and closes the door, the cord 19 of the lamp entering through the opening 9, the lamp 8 standing arallel to the sloping front 2, as shown in igure 2, and the latch 6 of Figure 5 holding M the door 4 closed, although some prefer to dispense with the latch 6 and to rely upon the bail 3, as a means for holding the door closed.
On the sides of the body 1 there are horizontal trough-shaped guides 10. A loop- V shaped stop 11 is secured to each guide 10 'V and extends across the guide. In the guides 10, the parallel side arms 12 of a prop 14 are mounted for right line reciprocation. At their outer ends, the side arms 12 are bent to form depending U-shaped feet 15 connected by a cross bar 16. On the inner ends of the side arms 12 of the prop 14 there are outstanding fingers 17.
In practical operation, the prop 14 may be pulled out, to the right in Figure 1, until the fingers 17 engage the stop 11, the body 1 of the heater thus being prevented from tipping over under the pressure exerted thereon by the feet of the operator. The parts 15 operate with the bed clothes, to support the body 1, and the cross bar 16 forms a connection whereby the prop may be pulled out readily into operative position, the side arms 12 sliding in the guides 10.
The device is simple in construction, but it affords a convenient means whereby heat may be had in a bed, at a minimum expense.
For those who do not care for an electric heater, the form shown in Figure 6 is provided. In Figure 6, parts hereinbefore described have been designated by numerals previously used, With the suifix a. In this form of the invention, the door 4 is omitted, and instead of heating the device by the elec- 5 trio lamp 8 of Figure 4, the top of the body 1a is provided with a filling cap 18, so that the g body may be made to contain hot Water.
What is claimed is: In a device of the class described, a box- 10 like body, means for heating the body, guides mounted on the sides of the body, stops extended across the guides, and a prop including side arms having depending legs connected by a cross bar, the side arms being slidably mounted in the guides, and having fingers which cooperate With the stops to limit the outward sliding movement of the prop to an operative position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
REUBEN SIDEMAN.
