Description
F. POLLARD.
' SHOW-CASE. I No. 183,968. Patented 0ct.31, 1876.
WITNESSES IJVVENTOR $670M By 7 g/ fl m .Atforu ey UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK POLLABD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,968, dated October 31, 1876; application filed July 12, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK POLLARD, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-(Jase Moldings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of show-case moldings, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of one corner of a show-case. Figs. 2 and 3 are detailed sections of parts thereof.
A represents the bottom molding, made of any desired shape, but having its upper edge a flat or horizontal. B is the top molding, also made of any desired shape, but having its lower edge 12 also flat or horizontal. O is the corner-post, having its ends out straight and fastened to the moldings A and B. Heretofore it has invariably been the rule to make the top edge of the base molding and the under side of the top molding either round or beveling, and it is considerable trouble and work to fit the ends of the corner-post to said moldings. It has always been done by handfiling, which takes considerable time, and takes an experienced workman to do it so as to make A close joints, and sometimes it is almost impossible to make a close joint. By having the top edge a of the base molding A, and the under edge I) of the top molding B, square or flat, and the ends of the post (3 cut off straight, either square or beveling, to fit against A and B, then, if the edges of the moldings A B are not always the same, they can be cramped or forced against the ends of the post so as to make a tightjoinr.
By this construction the moldings are easier made and put together, and will save labor in many ways.
Some show-cases have no top molding, and others have no base molding; but my invention is equally applicable to them; hence I do not confine myself to using both moldings at one time with the corner-post.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a show-case, the base molding A, having a flat metallic upper edge, a, the top molding B, having a fiat metallic under edge, b, and the post 0, having its ends cut ofi' straight, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK POLLARD.
