Be it known that I, HARRY l/VHITE, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corner- Braces, of which the following7 taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in metallic corner braces forfralnes, and particularly door and window screen frames, and has for its object the production of an extremely simple and economical construction, which is readily secured in operative position, and is durable and effective in use: to this end the invention consists, essentially, in a sheet metal plate composed of a pair of bars arranged at an angle with each other, and a tie-bar between the opposite extremities of said bars, and depending attaching arms inclining outwardly at an angle greater than a right angle from the inner edges of said angularly arranged bars and being each provided with a laterally extending extremity -'f having its extreme end disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the adjacentinner edges of said angularly disposed bars.
The invention furthermore consists in the detail construction and arrangement of the parts, all as hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out in the claim.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which, like letters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures l and 2 are elevations respectively of a Window screen frame and a door frame having my improved corner braces secured at the separate corners thereof. Fig. 3 is a face view of the blank from which my improved cornerbrace is formed. Fig. 4 is a top plan View of one of myimproved corner braces shown as operatively mounted upon a pair of frame bars indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 5 is an isometric perspective of the underside of one of my corner braces, its attaching arms being shown as in their position assumed before application to a frame.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view, taken on line -6-6-, Fig. 2, the corner brace being shown as partly secured in position, and Fig. 7 is asectional view, taken on the same section line, showing the brace as secured in operative position.
The frame A-, to which my improved corner brace is secured, may be composed ot' four side bars *a-a-a-ameeting each other at an angle, as shown at Fig. l, or of such side bars and suitable cross-bars for bracing the frame as a transverse bar -band a vertical bar -bas shown at Fig. 2.
The plate -C- of my cornerbrace is composed of sheet metal, and is formed of angulari)T arranged bars -c--c and a tie-bar -cbetweenthe opposite extremities of the bars -c-c-.
-D-D- represent projections depending from the underside of the plate -C- and adapted to enter the face of the frame -A-, as seen at Figs. 6 and 7. These projections arev here shown as of different length in order that they may enter the frame bars ce-a Ct-aone after the other, and thus prevent splitting thereof by the gradual piercing of the grain.
-E-E- are guards, which project down- Wardlyfrom the innered ges of the bars orarms -c-cand bear against the inner side edges of the adjacent frame bars for facilitating the proper alignment of my improved brace and for preventing torsional strain upon the frame bars.
-F-F- represent depending dexible attaching armsincliningoutwardlyfrom the adjacent edges of the arms --c-cat an angle greater than a right angle. The extremities -f-fof these armsextend laterally from the remaining portions thereof, and their extreme ends are, before the plate -C- is secured in position, as clearly shown at Figs. 5 and 6, normally arranged in planes substantially perpendicular to the adjacent portions of the inner edges of the arms -c-c. After the under face of the plate -C- rests firmly against the adjacent faces of the frame -A- and the projections -D- have entered their entire length the extremities -y-f of the flexible arms -F--F- are firmly forced into the side edges of the frame bars -a-a-,

thus bending the exible arms -F--F- into planes substantially perpendicular to the arms c-c-. This peculiar construction of arms -F-'-F- forms the essential feature of my invention, as my improved brace may be readily placed in position upon the bars of the frame -A-, and is firmly and positively secured in position after said arms and their laterally extending extremities are forced to operative position as described.
At Fig. l I have shown braces -G- connecting the frame bracing bars -bof the screen door frame shown at Fig. 2, to the side and base bars ot' said frame, and have shown these braces as composed of angulaily arranged bars -E-E-- It is unnecessary, however, to furtherillustrate or describe these metallic braces -G-, as the same form no part of my present invention.
My improved corner brace is economically manufactured, is quickly and easily secured in operative position,andis efficient and durable in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is-
The metallic corner brace herein shown and described for frame bars meeting each other at an angle, the same comprising a sheet metal plate composed of bars -c-carranged at an angle with each other, and a tie-bar -cbetween the opposite extremities of the bars -cc-, projections D on the under face of said metallic plate a depending arm -F- extending outwardly from the inner edge of one of said bars *c-pcat an angle therewith greater than a right angle, and provided with a laterally extending extremity -fhaving its extreme end disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the edge of the adjacent portion of said bar -c-, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
