Description
No. 679.987. Patented Aug. 6, l90l. L. D. PATTEN.
KNEADING BOARD.
(Application filed May 16. 1901.)
(No Model.)
Qynwnioi, [orange 1), 7%?7622 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LORENZO D. PATTEN, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
KNEADlNG-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679,987, dated August 6, 1901.
Application filed May 16, 1901. Serial No. 60,438. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LORENZOD. PATTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kneading-Boards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to. the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 isa perspective view showing part of the metal broken away. Fig. 2 is a tie tached view of the body-binding strip. Fig. 3 is a bottom or under side view. Fig. 4is a section on line on 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is asection on line 3 1 Fig. 1. I Fig. 6 is a detached view showing a portion of the strengthening-strip.
The present invention has relation to kneading-boards; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the body of the board, which is preferably formed of Wood or strawboard and is of a size and shape to correspond with the size of the kneading-board designed to be constructed. To one end of the board 1 is connected the metal binding-strip 2, which strip is so formed that it will overlap a small portion of the top and the bottom sides of the body 1, as illustrated in Fig. 4, and is for the purpose of preventing the body 1 from springing or warping. At the front end of the body 1 is located the strengthening-strip 3, which strengthening-strip extends above the top of the board proper and also a short distance below the bottom thereof and is so located for the purpose hereinafter described. Upon the body 1 is located the metal cover or top 4, which metal cover or top is bent upon one end of the board, as illustrated at 5, Fig. 3, and the sides of said metal cover or top folded upon the bottom or under side of the body 1, as illustrated in said Fig. 3. The metal cover or top is bent or folded around the strengthening-strip 3 and extended a short distance upon the bottom or under side of the body 1, as illustrated in Fig. 4., and all the parts of the cover folded upon the bottom or under side of the body 1, securely connected to said body.
The object and purpose of extending the strengthening-strip 3 above the upper face of the board proper and below the bottom thereof is to provide two flanges, the upper one being for the purpose of preventing the material upon the board from sliding ofi and holding tools and the lower flange to engage the edge of a table or other support and prevent the board from moving by the movement of a rolling-pin.
The metal cover or top is preferably formed of tin and of a single piece throughout its entire length and width, thereby providing a kneadingboard whose working surface is formed throughout without seams.
In the manufacture of myimproved knead ing-board I prefer to construct the body of strawboard, thereby producing a board that is light and well adapted for the purpose designed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a kneading-board the, combination of a body, a metal covering located thereon, a
ward end of the body and extended above the face of the board and below the bottom or under side thereof, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a kneading-board, a body provided with a flange or head-piece formed at the forward end thereof, a metal top folded over the head-piece and under a portion of the body, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a kneading-board, the combination of a body, a metal top, a strengthening-strip extending above the working face of the board and depending downward below the bottom or under side of said board, and said top folded under portions of the body at its ends and sides, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
