This invention relates to improvements in a tube holder and particularly to a holder for collapsible tubes containing tooth paste, shaving cream, glue, paint or the like.
The object of this invention to construct a holder which can be easily and conveniently applied to a wall, or other support and in which tubes of various sizes can be easily and readily inserted, having means whereby by a simple manipulation the contents of the tribes can be discharged onto a brush or the li (e.
Another object of this invention is to provide means for causing the collapsible end of 1 the tube to tightly wind around a shaft as its contents are being discharged.
A still further object is to provide a closure for the discharge end of the tube which will tightly close said end while the tube is suspended or supported in the holder and which can be very conveniently manipulated to open the tube when the discharge of the contents is desired. i,
Another object is to provide novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will render the device simple and practicable.
My invention will be more clearly understood by reference to the accompanying 3O drawings in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts and in which Fig. l is a front view of the holder; Fig. 2 a longitudinal section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 2
and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the discharge end of the holder.
In the drawings 10 denotes a substantially rectangular or oblong metal plate, or the like, which is adapted to be fixed or otherwise applied to a stationary support such as a wall or the like. In the present exam 1e said plate is provided at its corners wlth holes 10 for screw bolts whereby it may be fixed to a wall or the like.
Formed integrally with or soldered to said plate as at 10 is a U-shaped bracket 11 extending transversely near the upper end of said plate, and in the forwardly projecting arms 11' of which are provided circular holes 59 11". In these holes is adapted to rotatively bear a iongitudinally slotted spindle 12 one end of which is extended laterally beyond the corresponding bracket arm and formed av wing or thumb piece 12 serving as a haze dle. Formed integrally with said bracket arm or said plate or suitably fixed to the ter by soldering or otherwise and extending longitudinally of said plate and'centrally oii said bracket 11 is a guide member 13, which in the present example is in form of a bar whose longitudinal edges 18" are projecting from the plate 10 in oppositely slanting di rections. Engaging these edges is a siide member 14. whose edges 14 are bent downwardly or rearwardly in opposite directione. 555 to embrace the edges 13 of said guide thus be held constantly in slidable ment with said guide member. This guide member is formed at its upper end with a forwardly projecting member 15 which is recessed longitudinally as at 15 which recess is of such a, width as to engage a thread of the threaded nozzle t of the collapsible tube 15 when supported in the holder, as will be hereinafter more fully described. A comw plementary piece or member 16 having a similar recess 16' to engage said thread and whose longitudinal edges are bent over as at 16? to form grooves so as to slidably engage the edges of the member 15. These two members 15 and 16 when thus in engagement with the nozzle t and with one another hold the discharge end of the collapsible tube t in dispensing position. The usual flat collapsible end of the tube t is adapted to be inserted into the slot 12 of the spindle 12 while the lower or discharge end thereof is held in rllspensing position by the members 15'and When the spindle 12 is turned on its axis in its bearings 11 the tube t will be wound around said spindle causing a discharge of the contents thereof throu h the nozzle 25 when open. By reason of tie engagement with the thread the discharge nozzle t of the members 15 and 16 the slide 13 will be caused to slide longitudinally as the tube is compressed while its collapsible end is being wound around the s indle 12.
On the slide 13 is pivotaily supported a member 17 actuated by a curved plate spring 18 deposited between the slide 13 and plate 10, so that said member will be held in either closing or opening position. On the inner face the member 17 is provided with rubber stopper 19 or the like. The member 17 is so arranged relative to the opening in the nozzle t of the tube t, that when turned upwardly or forwardly said member 17 will close with its stopper 19 the open mouth of the tube t. The member 17 is provided with afinger piece 17 whereby it can easily and conveniently be manipulated.
In use the tube 25 is fastened in the holder by first inserting its fiat collapsible end in the slot 12 of the spindle 12 and then after removal of the cap t from the nozzle engaging the nozzle 15 with the members 15 and 16 of the slide. Then the member 17 is turned up to close the open mouth of the nozzle. Now when some contents are to be discharged the spindle 12 is turned around thereby winding the collapsible end around said spindle and thereby causing the discharge. During the winding of the tube around the spindle the slide 13 rides upwardly or longitudinally along with the tube, holding it from bending.
It will be clear that the device may bemoditied in various ways, without departing from the spirit of my invention and I therefore do not wish to restrict myself to the details shown and described.
hat I claim is 1. A collapsible tube holder comprising a base plate, a U-shaped bracket extending transversely and mounted near the upper end of said plate, a longitudinally slotted spindle one end of which is formed with a handle to rotate the same mounted in. said bracket. a guide bar mounted to said plate and having oppositely slanting edges, a slide member the edges of which slidably engage said slanting edges, said slide member also formed with a transverse extension, and having a longitudinal recess formed therein, a complementary member having a similar recess adapted to be slidably mounted on said extension and in cooperation therewith to hold the discharge end of a tube in engage ment with said slide member, and a spring actuated closure member mounted to said slide member for closing the open end of a tube held in said transverse extension.
2. A collapsible tube holder comprising a base plate, a bracket extending transversely of and mounted near the upper end of said plate, a longitudinally slotted spindle, one end of which is formed with a handle to rotate the same, mounted in said bracket, a guide bar mounted on said plate, said bar having oppositely slanting turned up side walls, a slide member, the edges of which are turned down to slidably engage said slanting side walls, a forwardly projecting portion formed on said slide member and having a longitudinal recess formed therein, a complementary member having a similar recess adapted to be slidably mounted on said forwardly projecting portion and in cooperation therewith to hold the discharge end of a tube in engagement with said slide memher, and a spring actuated closure member mounted to said slide member.
3. A collapsible tube holder comprising a base plate, a bracket mounted near the upper end of said plate, a longitudinally slotted spindle rotatably mounted on said bracket, a guide bar mounted on said plate, said bar having oppositely slanting side walls, a slide member adapted to slidably engage said side walls, a forwardly projecting portion formed on said slide member and having a longitudinal recess formed therein, a complementary member having a similar recess and adapted to be slidably mounted on said forwardly projecting portion and in cooperation therewith to hold the discharge end of a tube in engagement with said slide member and a spring actuated closure member mounted on said slide member.
