Beit known that I, GILBERT M. WILLIAMS, a
citizen of the United States, residin@r at Maysville, in the county of Mason and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Colla sible Tube, of which the following is a speci cation.,
This invention relates to colla sible tubes for containing glue, paste, or simi ar adhesive materials, and more particularly to means for spreading the material over the surface to which it has been applied. y
The object of the invention is to provide a colla sible tube havin a spreadin -blade secure to or formed lntegralwit the discharge end thereof, whereby the paste,l glue, or other similar material may be conveniently and evenly spread over a surface without the employment of a brush or other similar dev1ce.
A further object of the invention is to rovide a removable pin 'or stopper adapte to normally close the discharge end of the tube,
so as to prevent evaporation of the contents4 of the same.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel Combination and arran ement of parts hereinafter fully described, il ustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto ap ended, it being understood that various c anges in form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be vresorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication, Fi ure V1 is a perspective view of a collapslble tube lconstructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4 1s a similar view illustrating a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of a further modification. Fig. 6 'is a .side elevaftion of Fig.' 5, and Fig. 7isadetail perspective view of the pin or stopper detached.

In the drawings, 5 designates the colla sible tube or receptacle for containing tide paste, glue, or other semiliquid adhesive Inaterial, said v tube being provided with a threaded extension 6, ada ted to receive a correspondingly-threaded lscharge-nozzle 7.
Secured to or formed integral wlth the noza zle 7 is a spreading-blade 8, the free end of which is preferably arranged at an angle to the longitudinal plane or axis of the nozzle, so that when the tube is held in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings the free endof the blade will bear flat against the surface of the paper, and thereby permit'the paste to be evenly spread over the surface to be gummed.
The discharge-orifice 9 is dis'osed at thel base of the blade 8 and is norma ly closed by a pin or stopper 10, one end of which is bent laterally to form a loop or finger-piece 11 to facilitate the removal of the pin when using the device. The pin 10 serves to prevent evaporation of the contents of the 'tube and also as a means forv removing any deposits'of paste whih may have a tendency to clog or otherwise obstruct the orifice 9.
Attention is here called to the fact that by having the discharge-oriiice 9 disposed at the base of the spreadmg-blade-when the latter is in position on the paper or other surface and a slight lateral pressure applied to the walls of the tube the paste willbe deposited on-the surface of the paper at the rear of the blade, thereby permittin the adhesive material to be constantly fe to the blade and uniformly spread over the surface to be gummed.

While the spreading-blades in the several forms of the device are preferably formed integral With the nozzles, 1t is obvious that said blades may be formed from a separate iece of metal and soldered or otherwise rigid y attached -to the nozzle. It Will also be understood that the tubes instead of containing adhesive material may 'contain'paint or any4 `p other material capable of being spread over a 'flat surface.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that there is provided an extremely simple and inexpensive device admirably adapt- 'ed for. the attainment of the ends in vieW.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed isi l. A colla sible tube having a nozzle the neck of Whic is reduced and provided With a discharge-orifice, a spreading-blade carried by the nozzle, and a removable pin seated in the orifice in the reduced neck and rovided with a terminal l'inger-piece adapted to bear against the base of the spreading-blade.
