Description

Dec. 29, 1931. JWHART 1,838,827
BUCKLE Filed Nov. 20, 1929 Patented Dec. 29, 1931 I JOHN W. HART, OF MONKHGQMERY,
BUCKLE Application filed November 20, 1929. Serial No. 408,517.
My invention relates to improvements in buckles and more particularly to sliding buckles for use with overalls and the like.
It is an object of the invention to provide a buckle of the above-mentioned character which may be readily detached and yet will effectively secure the buckle in place when in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a buckle of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construos tion, reliable and efficientin use, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and'in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1, is a front elevation View of a strap showing my improved buckle attached thereto, v v v Fig. 2, is a side elevation view of the strap and buckle, and,
Fig. 3, is a perspective view of the buckle with the parts in separate relation.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 denotes an open metal frame, of rectangular shape, the ends 6 of the frame being concaved in shape, as more clearly shown in Fig. 2.
A locking bar 7 of. corresponding length to 35 the frame 5 is adapted to be disposed within the frame intermediate the side members 8, the ends of the bar being rabbeted on their under side, as at 9, providingabutments 10 which fit against the inner sides of the ends 6 and tongues 11 which extend over the top of the ends 6 supporting the bar in the frame. The buckle is applied to the strap 12 by inserting a fold of the strap 13 through the frame 5 and then inserting the locking bar 7 beneath the foldand on top of the frame, after which the bar becomes seated in the frame, being held in place by the tension of the strap. To remove the buckle from the strap it willbe seen that it is only necessary to release the tension from the strap, which will permit the bar 7 to be unseated from the frame and slid from beneath the fold 13.
From the foregoing it will be seen. I have provided a buckle which will permit read adjustment of the strap and yet may be rea ily removed and replaced upon-the strap when desired. The removability of the buckle is particularly desirable when used with overalls and other similar garments, since the buckles may be conveniently re- :80 moved therefrom when the garments are laundried, eliminating all possibility 'of'the buckles being damaged.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A buckle comprising an open frame and I a locking bar cooperating with said frame, said bar having its ends stepped to receive the ends of said frame.
2. A buckle comprising an open frame and a locking bar extending the length of said frame, said bar having its ends stepped, providing reduced abutments adapted to fit against the inner sides of the ends of the frame and tongues extending over the top of saidends.
3. A buckle comprising an open rectangular frame and a locking bar extending longitudinally of said frame having its ends stepped to receive the ends of said frame.
4. A buckle comprising an open rectangular frame and a locking bar extending longitudinally of said frame having its ends stepped, providing abutments adapted to fit against the inner sides of the ends of the frame and tongues extending over the top of I said ends, whereby the locking bar is re-" movably held in place.
5. A buckle comprising an open frame having opposite sides curved longitudinally, and a locking bar extending between the curved sides of said frame having its ends stepped to provide barefaced tenons adapted to rest on the sides of said frame.
6. A buckle comprisin an open frame having opposite sides curve longitudinally, and a locking bar extending between the curved sides of said frame having its ends stepped to provide shoulders adapted to fit against the inner face of the sides and barefaced tenons adapted to rest on the top face of the sides.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN W. HART.
