This invention relates to an ustable belt and waist line for trousers or pants for pa- ]amas, underwear, trunks and the like, the general object of the invention being to make the waist line of the garment adjustable to different sizes and to provide a hem around the waist line for receiving a belt.

This invention also consists in certain oth er features of construction and in the coin bination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts through the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front view showing the invention in use on the pants of a pair of pajamas.

Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a section on line 8-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the parts contracted to fit a smaller waist line than that shown in Figure 1.

Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 but shown in modification.

Figure 6 is a section on line 66 of Figure 5 with the belt omitted.

Figure 7 is a section on line 77 of Figure 5.

Figure 8 is a view of the belt.

In the drawings the letter A indicates the garment which is formed with a hem or casing 1 at its waist line to receive a belt 2. The belt is preferably made of material of several plies in thickness and may have a base of unbleached cotton or other suitable material and is preferably quilted to hold its original shape and not roll in the hem. The belt can also be constructed with an elastic strip. One end of the belt is secured in the hem or casing at one side of the fly opening of the garment and the fastening means may be several lines of stitching as shown at 3 or the end of the belt can be fastened in place by any other suitable means.

As shown in Figure 3 the end of the casing located in the underflap of the fly is closed and the corresponding end of the belt is fastened in the casing by the stitching or thread which holds the top button of the fly to said under flap. The other end of the casing opens out at the inner edge of the outer or top flap of the fly.

A number of buttons l are fastened to the A button holes are engaged with the buttons but if a waist line of greater diameter is desired then the first button hole in the belt may be engaged with the second button as shown in Figure 4L and when the full width waist line is desired the first button is engaged with the first button hole as in Fig- F ure 1.

Figures 5, 6 and 7 show the invention applied to a garment which does not have a fly opening so that in this case the opening 6 must be formed in the front part of the hem to permit the free end of the belt to pass therethrough as shown in Figures 5 and 7.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have devised means whereby the waist line of a garment may be easily adjusted to suit l different sizes of persons with a belt for holding the garment in place, this belt taking the place of the usual string which has a tendency to cut and in which there is no flexibility or strain.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

A garment of the class described having a fly opening at its front, a hem or casing extending around the waistline of the garment with one end of the casing terminating in the underflap of the fly and the other end of the casing opening out through the exterior part of the garment at the inner edge of the upper or outer flap of the fly, a belt passing through the casing and having one end located at the under flap end of the casing, a button for closing the top of the fly opening, threads fastening the button to the underflap of the fly at the top thereof, said threads passing through the said end of the belt, the opposite end of the belt passing through the opening at the other end of the casing, a number of buttons strung to the waistline of the garment at the right of the fly opening, the threads passing through the belt, and the free end of the belt having openings therein for each button.
